The Dreamer's Awakening | Mixed Media
$2,500
54 X 34
The multi-layered surface of "The Dreamer's Awakening" distorts time and space, by transporting us towards a futuristic space of queer utopia. Through bold colors, translucent, and opaque layering, I suggest a type of "remembrance" of a past-life twin flame love. The painting "The Dreamer's Awakening" simultaneously embodies a feminine and masculine queer perspective, while signifying the emergence of a romantic queer future.
She previously taught at OCAD University as a Teaching Assistant (TA) and as a Continuing Studies Instructor at Emily Carr University of Art and Design. She is currently pursuing a Fashion Design Certificate from Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles, CA.

In her latest series titled RISE, Nicole explores the possibilities of queer futurity through translucent layering, bold colors, dripping linework, fluid bodily shapes, opaque layers, and vivacious color.
In "Tangerine Romance," I evoke a surrealistic space in which the possibilities of the future become tangible through the process of imagination. By utilizing my ability to paint and dream, I create paintings that evoke a watery sensibility through a whimsical space. I dream of a future world that is fluid. A world that glitters with the essence of pride. Through painting marbled pools or expansive oceans, I imagine a watery space that is airy, and blue; a space that glimmers wit

In this solo exhibition by Art Show International Gallery - RISE features a collection of 18 large-scale contemporary gestural abstract-expressionist paintings. The paintings reclaim the queer body with bold prideful color and abstraction. The visceral yet potent color in RISE elicits a bold bodily expression, while openly expressing queer sexuality.
In the piece "Lychee," I capture the feeling of a transformed, healed, and liberated body, one that embodies queer pride. The saturated and translucent pinks and opaque bold colours, speak to the powerful reclaiming agency that I hold over and within my body. By painting the interior of the body through an intuitive approach, I recover and connect to the deeper part of my true queer nature.
