Yellow and Black Photography Quote (1).p

“My passion for photography stems from capturing a beautiful moment in time while holding the feeling that moment evokes.”

Erica intends to capture the raw beauty of nature to portray both the calm, peaceful side, and depict the power in our natural world. The photographs that she shares are of locations that have brought her joy, peace, and comfort. For her, photography goes beyond merely creating beautiful pictures; it is about capturing the essence and emotion of singular moments and sharing them with the world. The photographs she shares often depict locations that have brought her joy, peace, and comfort.

This image was captured at sunrise along the National Seashore beach in Cape Cod, Massachusetts. I used a technique called wave panning which is a form of intentional camera movement to capture the essence of motion in the ocean. It is printed on aluminum.

Having embraced photography since high school, she discovered a means of creative expression that resonated deeply with her. Unlike traditional creative outlets like drawing, painting, and dance, photography allowed her to see the world through a unique lens, and it quickly became an integral part of her life.

This image is a blend of two photographs taken during sunset at the Brewster Flats in Cape Cod. I used intentional camera movement to capture the patterns in the on the flats and between the colors of the sky, water and sand. I blended the image of the crescent moon shining above the flats that night. This is printed on aluminum.

Skipping ahead to the year prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, she had recently relocated to Boston with few acquaintances. To connect with others who shared her interest, she joined photography meet-up groups, attended classes, and rekindled her love for capturing the world through her camera lens. As the pandemic altered daily life, she realized that photography was a safe pursuit to immerse themselves in, leading to an intense period of self-improvement and learning.

“I immediately fell in love with seeing the world through my lens and photography quickly became a part of my life.”

Erica draws a compelling analogy to the classic dessert, apple pie a la mode. Prior to this moment, it seemed she has been contenting with the reliable, yet somewhat uninspiring, vanilla ice cream. Her participation in various classes and workshops expanded her perspective, revealing an entire apple pie that complements the vanilla ice cream. While the ice cream remains a delightful treat, she now recognizes the presence of a complete pie to relish.

“The photographs that I share are of locations and things that have brought me joy, peace, and comfort. Furthermore, I appreciate the diversity, as each style of apple pie brings its own distinct flavor.”

Eventually, she decided to turn her lifelong dream into reality and began selling her images at art markets, giving birth to “Erica Joy Photography.” Since then, she has extended her presence to art fairs, local markets, and art festivals, cherishing the opportunity to share her art and receive encouraging feedbacks.
