Artist YunFen Wang was born and raised in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. She has a big family with eleven people who reside together. She is the oldest child in her family and has two younger siblings. Her father is a professor of information management, and her mother is a housewife. Although no one in her family is engaged in art-related work, everyone supports her choice.

"No one likes to be stared at by other people, and no one wants to be pointed at by others. Except for hands and eyes, by including additional elements from everyday life—mobile phones, nail polish, mirrors, etc., I show that these situations can happen to anyone at any time."
From basic training in junior high school and later in high school to more advanced painting skills learned at university, she has accumulated a decade of skill-building and experience in painting and drawing. At the beginning of this period, she started by only devoting her attention to painting.

Her studies in high school focused on painting and drawing. In her 2011 high school graduation exhibition, her traditional graphic style evolved into a three-dimensional work for the first time. It challenged her technical skills to handle her work and her capability to put her artistic conceptions into the work.

The eyes cast by others are often impossible to escape, even if we try to avoid them.
Her installation piece, "Walking through Peace," was about events that were repeated in history. She used walking feet to show the damage brought by wars during the long years that could never be repaired. History leaves traces, which record everything human beings have done. This work increased her sense of responsibility for adding meaningful issues to her paintings.
In the continuation of the work, I focused on the pressure from others to create a sense of breathlessness in the beginning. However, after doing more creation, I found out that the pressure may also come from forcing ourselves to adapt to other people.

Whenever people are good at digitizing everything, there are many times when those numbers are not kind to us.
After graduating from high school, she applied to the Department of Fine Arts at the Chinese Culture University and was accepted. This department has a long history in Taiwan. The department integrates modern arts with traditional Chinese and Western paintings, providing many contemporary courses such as Micro Movie, Art Appraisal, and 3D Max.

In addition to the pressure from others, do we also ask ourselves to integrate too much?
In her 2016 graduation project, she used Windows as her theme. Even under the same sky, in the same air, and at the same temperature, people’s feelings are different. It is just like three people looking at a documentary through the same glass.
The combination of hands and eyes comes from the story of the Goddess of a Thousand Hands, Avalokitesvara. She needs these hands and eyes to find people in need around the world. But too much concern can make people feel like some invisible pressure is chasing them.

After she graduated from undergraduate university, her father encouraged her to study art abroad, hoping to see more possibilities in different environments.
“For the attention given by others, we all want to classify it as a concern, but too much attention may become a kind of pressure. This kind of pressure is hard to get rid of.”
Many times, "caring" brings people closer together, but it can also make people uncomfortable with too much attention. In this series of works, Interpreting discomfort, she discusses how much attention is too much. How is this feeling of discomfort formed? In many cases, a person can’t even be sure if this pressure comes from others or their own overreaction.

I have chosen a dark color for the background of many works. This dark color not only makes people feel uncomfortable but also represents a situation that is difficult to get rid of.
She received her MFA from the Academy of Art University, San Francisco with an emphasis in painting and drawing in 2021. Prior to this, her BFA was obtained at Chinese Culture University, Taiwan.
"Mirrors can reflect our every move, and we may also unknowingly do things that affect others. I use this series of works to discuss with the viewer the comfortable distance of interaction between people."

Hands are an interesting part, and everyone likes to interpret them even if they don't need specific movements. I like to let the audience use their own views to combine with my work to get their own ideas.
"Different people can focus on different things, and their individuality will vary. By doing so, they see different results from overlapping images taken at various angles. This delivered the idea I wanted to express."
