Yellow and Black Photography Quote (1).p

“We don’t make mistakes, just happy little accidents.”

Her artistic journey started when she was 5 years old. Every Saturday morning, she would hunker down on her living room floor and pull out her drawing tools of colored pencils and chalk pastels to draw along with her favorite inspirational artist on TV, Bob Ross. Talia would always explain to her parents how she created "happy trees" and beautiful nature scenes with Bob Ross.

In The Garden | Oil

NFS

"In The Garden" was inspired by my first cat, Angelus. When he was a kitten, I would take him on a lead in my backyard and let him explore the jungle of plants in the summer. Many times, I would take snapshots of his journey. "A kitten exploring is like watching a panther prowl: sleet, poise, cautious, attentive, and curious."

Her parents, after some time, noticed her enjoyment and talent for drawing along with her inspirational idol and enrolled her in Saturday morning art classes. During these lessons, Talia would learn how to work with charcoal, chalk pastels, and oil paint to recreate compositions of still lives, seascapes, and landscapes for the eventual recreation of animals.

Crusin The Reef | Oil

$3,000

"Crusin The Reef was a challenge I gave myself to create a scene of a sea turtle crusin the reef with other ocean life. I gathered some reference images of reef creatures and plants for inspiration with my scene. This painting is special! When I was painting this, I was teaching my students remotely due to the pandemic. With each art class we had, they were so excited to see my progression. Their enthusiasm encouraged me to paint more and take my own personal creative risks to share my works."

Through her youth, Talia continued her journey of developing her style and took many art courses well into high school. Talia then chose to embark on her journey of pursuing Art School at Maryland College of Art & Design. After earning her Associates in Fine Arts, Talia transferred to Montserrat College of Art in Beverly, Massachusetts, to earn her Bachelor in Fine Arts as a painter.

"I enjoy manipulating my oil paints to recreate the moments in which the memory took place."

Upon graduating from Montserrat College of Art in 2002, Talia followed one of her passions for education and pursued a career in early childhood education as a preschool teacher and aftercare teacher, as well as teaching several youth art programs in Montgomery County, Maryland. This career path allowed her to incorporate the arts into her everyday life and her students' lives. In 2018, Talia followed her dream of teaching art full time at a STEM-based gifted and talented private school in Potomac, Md.

When Heaven and Sea Sing | Oil

$900

"When Heaven and Sea Sing was inspired by a sunrise beach walk. The shore is where I feel calm and at peace. There is something magical as the sun rises and its colors reflect on the turning sea as the waves rhythmically flow. The crashing of the waves; the gulls, pelicans and sanderlings hunting for their breakfast, dolphins coasting the shore line riding waves, finding treasures in the sand, feeling the cool foaming water on your toes. It's a symphony for the soul!"

"Moment With A Dragonfly" was inspired by a photo shoot with a dragonfly. I was blessed one day when I saw this dragonfly darting in my backyard. As I watched it come closer, it landed on my patio chair. I then asked the dragonfly if I could please go get my camera. I cautiously went inside to grab it. Surprisingly, when I returned, it was just as I left it. I am so grateful for this amazing moment with this dazzling creature. For the dragonfly to me is heaven  sending me a message."

Moment With A Dragonfly | Oil

$2,000

The last 6 years of teaching art at the Feynman School to preschoolers through 8th grade have been the most fulfilling as a teacher. Seeing her students' artistic styles blossom has encouraged her to take on her own creative challenges to create and share her paintings with the art community.

“To be able to help guide youths to create art from their hearts as they explore artistic challenges using the many arrays and mediums of the fine arts is inspirational.”

“My mentor taught me to work as a traditional artist, developing my observational drawing and painting skills.”

After teaching during the week, on Saturday nights Talia listens to her favorite music, which ranges from classic rock to reggae, and sits and paints for a few hours when everyone settles in for the evening.

Reflection In Your Eyes | Oil

$4,000

"Reflection in Your Eyes" was inspired by a summer afternoon on the lake with my first love. "Young love, though it doesn't always last, will always be treasured."

As an artist, Talia’s paintings reflect a photo-realistic style composed of rich and vibrant colored blends of oil paint. like a frozen glimpse in time. Working from personally taken photos and some inspired by others, Talia mixes colors and layers them to assemble the forms of her subject matter.

Solitudes Defeats | Oil

$3,000

"Solitudes Defeats is a self portrait inspired by my feelings when I was in college and I felt defeated. My thesis professor thought that my paintings were not strong enough for my senior show. Ironically, when the show opened, my professor changed his view because so many people could relate to the emotions expressed in each portrait I created.

In her younger days, portraits were her subject matter. When teaching art remotely, she was encouraged by her students, who watched the development of her painting "Cruisin the Reef." Since then, Talia has been working on creating paintings that capture the beauty and treasured moments gifted by nature and her encounters.

"Turning Sea was inspired by a day at the beach where the water rolled as it broke on the shore." The waves approached each other with fast, powerful curling waves as they made their voices heard. "With this painting, I wanted to capture the movement of the ocean as its waves rolled into the shore."

Turning Sea | Oil

$750

"Through the pandemic, Talia began exploring painting nature images such as animals and environmental scenes."

Peaceful Calm | Oil

$800

Peaceful Calm was a creative challenge I gave myself of painting a self portrait using cool colors as I explored painting with layered short brushstrokes. I wanted to portray a peaceful calm, even though the brushstrokes showed movement.

Growing up in Maryland and being fortunate to spend most of her entire life playing in the sands of the Outer Banks of NC, the creations of sea life take their shape through these memories.

"Searching For Enlightenment is a self portrait where I wanted to capture that moment in time when I gaze into the candlelight in search with hope of understanding life and it's journey."

With the support and encouragement of her family, Talia is working on developing these new artistic compositions to share them with the art world and see where the journey takes her next!

Grace On The Water | Oil

$500

Grace On The Water was inspired by a swan that I used to watch and talk to at Mackerel Cove in Beverly, Massachusetts. This swan would sit on the shore or swim in the cove. She always seemed to be there when I walked to the water each day. I had this connection. I always felt that her grace and beauty were accentuated as she floated across the water. Something about her grace always captivated me.

“My new hope as a loving mother, wife, and teacher is to explore my dream and pursue my fine arts talents further.”
