Tabitha Kremesec

USA

Yellow and Black Photography Quote (1).p

"Painting is my therapy and my freedom beyond every limitation."

Tabitha Kremesec is a mixed-media artist whose work is a captivating fusion of the traditional and the modern. At the heart of her practice lies a foundation of hand-crafted art, pieces created through meticulous, tactile processes that honor the authenticity of traditional mediums. What sets her apart is her ability to then layer digital elements onto these handmade foundations, seamlessly blending the tactile with the virtual. This meeting of old and new defines her vision, producing images that feel at once grounded in craft and alive with contemporary possibility. In her hands, two worlds that might seem opposed are brought into genuine and surprising harmony.

This artwork is a unique blend of traditional painting and digital creativity. Tabitha transforms her original works by layering in photographic elements, adding depth and texture for a fresh and engaging visual experience.

Her creative process unfolds like storytelling, with each layer adding a new chapter and dimension to the narrative she weaves visually. Rather than arriving at a single fixed image, she builds her work gradually, allowing meaning to accumulate as one element is set upon another. The result is a body of work that invites viewers to look closer, to discover the interplay between the handmade and the digitally crafted, and to experience the layered textures and hidden significance beneath the surface. Nothing in her art is meant to be taken in at a glance; instead, each piece rewards the patient, curious eye that lingers.

"Handmade foundations meet digital layers in every work I create."

For Kremesec, art is far more than a matter of aesthetic appeal. It reflects her deeply held belief that creativity is an evolving dialogue between the old and the new, a conversation carried on across generations of makers and mediums. Her work becomes a celebration of how traditional craftsmanship can find fresh life through digital innovation, neither discarding the past nor clinging to it. Each piece stands as a testament to the harmony that can exist when an artist honors what came before while openly embracing what lies ahead. This philosophy gives her practice a thoughtful depth beneath its immediate visual pleasures.

Through every artwork, Kremesec invites her audience to step into the space between the tangible and the virtual. She opens a threshold where the handmade and the digital coexist, and asks the viewer to dwell there and enjoy the rich, layered storytelling that emerges. This invitation is central to her purpose as an artist, for she does not simply present finished images but offers experiences to be entered and explored. Her work becomes a shared space, one in which the boundaries between physical and digital soften, and where the act of looking becomes an act of discovery for everyone who chooses to engage.

"Mixing it up is where I thrive, drifting between abstract, portrait, and landscape and always chasing whatever fresh subject captures my imagination."

"I begin every piece by hand, building texture with a palette knife, a sponge, or even my own fingers, and then I layer digital elements over that foundation until the tactile and the virtual meet. Art is my therapy and my escape; a walker changed how I move through the world, but painting gave me back a sense of freedom that nothing else can. My greatest hope is simple, that my work makes someone smile and lets them feel, even for a moment, the same release that creating gives to me every single day."

Beyond her conceptual concerns, Kremesec finds genuine joy in the simple act of bringing her artistic visions to life. She is passionate about the ocean and about animals, themes that flow naturally and frequently through her work. With a love for painting abstracts, portraits, and landscapes, she delights in mixing things up and continually exploring new subjects rather than settling into a single niche. This openness keeps her practice fresh and adventurous, and it reflects a temperament drawn always toward the next possibility. For Kremesec, the pleasure of making is inseparable from the pleasure of discovering what she might create next.

Art holds a profound personal meaning for Kremesec, functioning for her as a genuine form of therapy. Living with a physical disability that requires her to use a walker, she can no longer swim or bike as she once did, and in that changed reality art has become her escape and her freedom. Through her unique and beautiful creations, she hopes both to make people smile and to find, for herself, a sense of liberation that reaches beyond her physical limitations. Her practice is thus not only an artistic pursuit but a deeply human one, a means of transcendence and joy earned through creativity.

Kremesec's path to painting began relatively recently, yet she has pursued it with dedication and steady growth. She began taking watercolor painting lessons in the summer of 2018, studying for nearly a year with the artist Deborah Marlene Kearney. In 2019 she decided to take up oil painting, teaching herself the medium from that point forward. Working primarily in oils and watercolors, she describes herself as a growing artist, and she has been painting seriously for several years while developing her own business, Tabitha's Watercolors, alongside her creative practice. This blend of early instruction and self-taught determination has shaped the artist she is becoming.

"Sea creatures and animals surface again and again in what I make."

Originally from Nebraska, Kremesec moved with her immediate family to northern California when she was still a small child, and California remains her home today. It is there that her artistic life has taken root and flourished, from her first lessons to her current work across multiple mediums. She is an active member of the artistic community, belonging to both the Calaveras Art Gallery and the California Art Club. These affiliations reflect her commitment not only to her own development but to the wider world of artists around her, situating her practice within a supportive network of galleries and fellow makers who share her devotion to the craft.

Recognition has already come to her at regional exhibitions. Kremesec entered the Calaveras County Fair Jubilee in 2018 in the amateur fine art category for mixed media portraiture, where she won a third-place ribbon, and she went on to enter the professional fine art division the following year. She has also taken part in the Spring Obsession Art and Daffodil Show at Ironstone Vineyards across several years, earning a merit ribbon in 2021 for one of her oil paintings. These early accolades mark meaningful milestones in her journey, affirming the promise of an artist steadily building both her skill and her reputation.

Central to her handmade foundations is a love of texture and experimentation. Kremesec employs a variety of techniques in her painting, from finger painting to the use of a palette knife and sponges, drawn to the different textures each method brings to the surface of a work. This tactile inventiveness carries through into the digital layering that follows, ensuring that even her most contemporary pieces remain rooted in the physical pleasure of making. In the end, Kremesec is an artist of bridges, between old and new, tactile and virtual, limitation and freedom, and her work invites everyone who encounters it to cross those bridges with her.
