Paper boat | Acrylic

NA

24 X 24

The painting takes us to our childhood days when we celebrated the tiniest of things. Simplicity and joy were in abundance. Almost everyone at some point in their childhood has made a paper boat and seeing it float the drain and chasing it during the rainy season was sheer joy. The painting is from a current series that the artist is working on.

Though he has no formal degree in arts, he acquired the skills from his grandfather, who was an artist and an art teacher in Madhya Pradesh, Central India. Sarang studied the basics of drawing and painting from his grandfather during his childhood days. But pursued a different profession. He resumed his passion for painting in 2016 in remembrance of his late grandfather.

The painting evokes childhood memories and takes us back to our school days when almost everyone at some point has made a paper plane and made it fly in the classroom either in a free period or behind teacher's back. The painting is from a current series that the artist is working on.

Sarang is passionate about painting abstracts, as it empowers him to bring order amidst the chaos. Finding the fine balance between the colors and composition is his meditation. While playing with colors is an instinctive process for him, his artworks are based on a deliberate intent.

“My workflow for paintings is usually based on a narrative or a theme that integrates the individual artworks in a particular series.”

His artworks are inspired by nature and are centered around natural phenomena or/and interactions with nature or/and simple mundane things that evoke creativity. His abstract artworks have both elements of geometric and organic shapes with a focus on a balanced composition and balance of colors. Besides abstracts, Sarang also likes to do expressionistic figurative paintings and portraits.

When painting an abstract he prefers working in a square format. His preferred choice of brands for acrylic colors are Liquitex, Winsor, and Newton. His preferred choice for pastels is Sennelier.

“While I primarily work with acrylic colors, I love to experiment with different mediums including watercolors, soft pastels, and oils using different techniques.”

“As it is a part-time endeavor for me, I create only 15-20 paintings in a series of 5. i.e. 3 or 4 theme-based series in a year. I am passionate and committed to my art and have a professional approach when it comes to presenting and exhibiting my artwork.”

He has been studying portraiture and figurative works in his spare time. He also sometimes likes to do still-life paintings. He carries his watercolor sketchbook whenever he travels for vacations and loves to do watercolor sketches of those places. He is a keen student of art and loves to experiment with his creativity using different mediums and varied techniques.
