“I was just two years old when I picked up my first paintbrush.”
Sara Stoffmacher is a California-born, New York-based multimedia artist whose work blends abstract realism with emotional depth, natural forms, and personal storytelling. Born on January 8, 2001, in Tarzana, California, she began painting at the age of two, inspired by her grandmother, a painter who introduced her to the expressive power of color and texture. From these beginnings, her fascination with art evolved into a lifelong pursuit of creative exploration. What started as childlike curiosity grew into a professional practice dedicated to self-expression, healing, and human connection. This vision culminated in the founding of Artistry by Sara Stoffmacher in 2022.

Exploring the beauty in literature and art.
Sara holds dual Bachelor of Arts degrees in Psychology and Public Health from the University of California, Berkeley, completed in 2023. She later earned her Master’s in Social Work from Columbia University in 2025. Her academic path reflects a deep curiosity about the human mind and the systems that shape emotional and social well-being. These studies profoundly influence her artistic process, where psychology and art intersect as tools for empathy and understanding. Through her mixed-media work, she explores how mental landscapes manifest in physical form, transforming intangible emotions into tangible visual narratives.

Exploring the intricacy of the human form
Her artistic journey began in the realm of post-impressionism and abstract art, where she explored color and motion as pathways to emotion. Over time, she developed a practice rooted in self-expression, using mixed media to bridge the connection between the body, nature, and human consciousness. She is drawn to subjects that explore resilience, identity, and healing, expressed through free-flowing compositions that mirror both the complexity and simplicity of the natural world. Her paintings balance vivid color with delicate linework, creating a dialogue between chaos and calm that mirrors the balance she seeks in life.
“Each color holds a feeling, each stroke becomes a memory.”
In 2022, Sara joined Gallery 2727 in Berkeley as both an exhibiting artist and marketing assistant. There, she collaborated with Bay Area artists to create an inclusive community art space. She participated in three group exhibitions, selling multiple works across diverse mediums and styles, and contributed to event curation and outreach. Her time at Gallery 2727 strengthened her commitment to collaboration and mentorship, qualities that continue to shape her creative career. The experience also expanded her understanding of the relationship between art, audience, and community engagement.

Her compositions often merge organic structures with the human figure, symbolizing the interconnectedness of the inner and outer worlds. Through layered color, texture, and gesture, she explores emotion as both subject and process, making each piece a living reflection of change.

By blending vibrant palettes with subtle textures, she portrays strength, vulnerability, and renewal. Each canvas becomes a meditative space, inviting viewers to connect emotionally and to experience beauty as a shared human truth.

This piece combines my love of the ocean and bright colors. This is the first piece in my nUnderwater, featuring different aspects of oceanic life and portraiture. I have depicted a want to understand human's connection with nature, particularly the ocean, and the subsequent environmental impact we have on earth.
