Pete Malmberg

USA

Yellow and Black Photography Quote (1).p

“I am fascinated by the fleeting nature of the world around us and I attempt to capture glimpses of its transient nature.”

Pete Malmberg is a museum curator and emerging contemporary artist in Iowa. His works seek to combine colors, shapes, and textures into abstract paintings that engage the viewer and make them want to view regularly for new insights into the piece and the artists emotions. One of his goals is to paint pieces that can soothe emotions and leave viewers in a better emotional state.

Copper Fingers | Acrylic

Copper Fingers is a look at a fantasy skeleton or landscape with two complementary and carefully selected colors and dimensions. I was very happy about the resulting combination of subtle light and dark hues.

He would very much like works to be seen in hospitals and other workplace settings.
He primarily works in acrylic mediums but occasionally does mixed media with charcoal and some small pen and ink sketches. Mr. Malmberg looks forward to many future years engaging audiences with appealing and interesting pieces.

Fossil | Acrylic

$600

12 X 9

Fossil is an exploration of fantasy. Is it a Fossil? Is it an island? Is it something unknown? This piece invites bower contemplation.

Pete and Heather Malmberg are emerging artists outside Perry, Iowa. Pete is the curator of Forest Park Museum, a local history museum. Heather is a Walmart pharmacist. They enjoy raising the famous Maremmano Abruzze livestock guardian dogs, expanding their lovely Rose Garden and exploring contemporary art.

“Nature and love for animals is also present in many of my artworks.”

Pete uses different pallet knives and many other tools including sometimes just his hands. Scraping, layering, and developing different textures that connect with the viewer are an essential part of his visions. All colors must complement one another, and he frequently uses different shades of just one or two to complete a work. If he feels a “wow” factor halfway through the work, he continues with that concept. The whole process is very intuitive after he starts with a basic idea.

Silver Streaks | Acrylic

$600

12 X 9

This piece was really fun to make. I was very pleased to get the light and darker colors complementing each other and to have such great texture. I wanted my techniques to engage the viewer and leave them in a better emotional state.

Copper flier is a fantasy creation flying through the air. What is it? What is happening to it? Many unanswered questions.

Malmberg’s work can be seen online on the ArtMajeur and ArtPal galleries as well as a page on the Swiss Galerie.ch website about him. He recently received recognition from the prestigious Art Show International and looks forward to working with them.

“Rudolph Pen’s works line the walls of the Malmberg home and inspire them to keep innovating in all their pieces. His abstract forests and racetrack scenes are some of my favorites.”

“I did some ink sketches and charcoal work but particularly I enjoy painting acrylic pieces that explore colors, shapes, textures, and the intersection of the material and natural worlds. My pieces tend to vivid colors and interesting textures.”

His works appear at the Mary Rose Gallery in Perry and will soon be in the Mega Art Association Gallery website and exhibition in Rome. Many thanks to Claudio Giulianelli and others who have helped them with their art! Private collectors are starting to buy his pieces and he is the subject of an article in the ArtonWorld magazine. He looks forward to many years creating beautiful and interesting pieces for many collectors and institutions walls.

Copper Grasses | Acrylic

$600

12 X 9

Copper grasses is designed to bring beauty to a room and joy to people entering that room.

Pete also finds inspiration for his art in the architectural world. Old buildings with their cracked walls are one of his favorites. The aged exteriors tell stories about them that is very similar to the lifecycle of living organisms. The brilliance of metallic objects also fascinated him. Like many people he is attracted to beautiful golden, copper, silver and bronze hues. Combined with one or two muted colors, they create something that can enthral human eyes for hours.

Undulating | Acrylic

$150

8 X 8

Undulating is simply the beauty of a grassland in an abstract way with complementary colors and techniques.

Pete has spent much of his museum career visiting elderly volunteers and donors in retirement centers and has observed that certain surroundings and artwork seems to make the patients feel much calmer in stressful emotional situations. Hours spent with his dying parents helped him decide to make captivating pieces. His stepfather’s ten-year battle with Alzheimer’s helped cement his beliefs about the soothing power of certain artworks.

Find the hidden colors! This piece directs the viewer.

“I am a self-taught Autodidactic artist studied many different techniques.”

Copper Canopy | Acrylic

An abstract look at standing inside a grove of trees looking up.

His personal rose garden and one at Forest Park Museum inspire him to portray abstract representations of flowers and plants in many pieces. His correspondence with floral artists helps him define these portrayals with mixtures of brilliant and subtle tones frequently painted in layers.

Abstract golden flowers. Soothing for viewers.

His mother Sandy Maxwell was an art lover particularly fond of the impressionists who always talked about her love of Monet’s use of light and loved her son’s use of contrasting light and darker colors. Pete’s wife’s great uncle was the famous Art Institute Instructor Rudolph Pen who was fascinated with motion and attempted to portray it in all his works.

Abstract Expressions 1 | Mixed Media

$1,000

8 X 10

This piece wowed me when I finished. The colors popped and the lines were sharp! What images can viewers find?

“After years of museum curation, I am familiar with many different artists and their artistic evolution.”
