Nisa Omar is a 35-year-old Malaysian artist from Kuala Lumpur. She is also an academic specialized in Media and Visual Communication with qualifications in Bachelors, Masters, and Ph.D. degree in Creative Multimedia from Multimedia University, Cyberjaya.
Masquerade | Mixed Media

A “Masquerade” is a piece that comes with a story of a lady having to put on an elegant facade while being wrapped in jewels and finest things. Will the facade represent the inner being? Or was it just a disguise?
Her vision in art is usually about bridging a real-life experience and a fantasy world. Her work presents visual metaphors as a representation art through a very real observation, experience, journey, or any other primary findings of life. These visual metaphors were usually presented through a relatable concept where others can also see the value and the story behind the artwork. The objects or situation that she chose to present in her work will be the visual cues to showcase the implicit meaning of the art piece.

Cessation is about the chaotic and noisy life of a busy working women. At times we have to stop, breathe, and look up! When we actually think that there is not enough time though we have 24 hours a day.. well, let’s think again!
A lot of people take great comfort in creating something beautiful where they focus a lot on the aesthetic beauty of the piece, while as for Nisa, she feels that an artwork is not about creating something beautiful, but more about making sure the piece is meaningful. The strength of the connection that an artist has with the art piece will determine the impact that the piece will have with the audience.
“I usually find beauty within any ugly scene and turn the scene into a fantasy instead of horror.”
This artist work is an examination of the different aspect of life and how the common stories though expected to be predictable can actually surprise the viewers. Altering a real story into a fiction is almost how one can see the visual metaphors were crafted in the artwork. If one were to look a little longer in the artwork, you can see the tension that are almost appealing and imposing to our vision and perception of the piece. For her artwork, she believes that art is for everyone to view and enjoy

Mortal Beauty is an artwork presenting two types of being. In a life where we always look for perfection; the smoothest skin, the flawless touch, the sweetest scent; we tend to forget that we are not immortal. But the beauty on the inside however, will last forever…
Wild beauty is a story of a lady wearing her dress like an armour; strong and powerful as she walks in her journey through life. She will face difficulties, struggles, and challenges, but her spirit remain strong as those of the beautiful wild animals. Even in tears, she has no fear!

Brazen Beauty | Acrylic

Brazen beauty is a paper sculpture with acrylic paint. Being brazen is not about being shameless but it is about being daring and bold and not feeling ashamed about it. The piece was actually created using recycled materials.
While she makes no attempt to portray the actual incidents such as through realism, she still tries to make viewers realize the meaning of the artwork from her perspective. The artist will always try to make her creation to look like it could also be of others’ representation of life – in a way, it could potentially connect the artist, the artwork, and the viewers through one vision.

Physiognomy | Acrylic

Physiognomy is about portraying the vibrant and strong features and expression of a women. The shapes, line and colours would be some of the elements used to elevate the meaning. The artist started the outline of the artwork in 2015 and the completion only happen in 2021.
In several of her piece, she tries to presents her inner dialogue of being a woman herself in which there are many attributes to share. One can see a women’s strong expression, powerful stride, and vibrant journey; and the shapes, lines, and colors would be some of the elements that she used to elevate the meaning of the work.
Rama-Rama (butterfly) is a leisure art piece. It is of a common inspiration when the artist saw a butterfly on the way to work and as the looked up, she saw the bluest of the sky that week. Thus, Rama-Rama was created with a strong blue background and flutters of paint splashes.

Petal | Photoshop

Petal is an abstract art. This piece is to represent a flower petals from the outside view where the colours are usually bright and vibrant. From the strokes and texture, it is and abstract representation of movement and layers.
Her creation includes wire art sculpture, painting, and digital art, to name a few. She uses a lot of mix media in her piece and her preferred medium would be acrylic, oil, ink pen, and several others. Additionally, she also started to get involve in creating art based on sustainable development theme where most of her medium comes from waste items.
This is another abstract art. Pistil is a continuation of a previous artwork called ‘petal’. Is petals are the beautiful ‘outside’ version of a flower, then pistil is the abstract representation of an inside view of a flower. Pistil and petal, one cannot exist without the other.

Her art piece could either be captured spontaneously or through controlled design and crafted illustration. She does not believe in correction, but only enhancement – in which, once the ink meets the paper, there is no going back.

Sentinel | Wire

This is a sculpture made of wire and acrylic paint. A Sentinel is a fierce soldier who will stand still and keep watch. Sentinel is a bird with a red feather like fire and one that is precious like gold.
