Expressionism Art

Mira Horbacz

POLAND

Yellow and Black Photography Quote (1).p

“I believe that abstraction is more about creating moments and releasing feelings onto the canvas, rather than overthinking.”

Mira Horbacz is a young adult from Poland now living in Amsterdam, who sees expressionism art as an escape into a world where emotions are deeply felt and expressed through painting. Her work is all about her emotional depth and spontaneity.

Sands of Sadness | Acrylic

$1,000

39 X 39

Sometimes, sadness can feel so overwhelming that it seems like an endless desert. However, like the sands in an hourglass, this feeling is temporary and will pass with time.
The yellow symbolizes the vast desert, separated by a black line from a red-colored sky.
The black object represents the presence of sadness, which will eventually fade into the warm horizon.

Mira’s artistic journey started when she was fourteen, attending art classes every Friday afternoon for five years. These early lessons were important in shaping her approach to art, giving her a foundation that she continues to build on.

Observing Bird | Acrylic

$500

47 X 16

The bird, symbolizing freedom, perspective, and insight, observes the changes that occur in life. Its eye, resembling a spiral, represents the countless directions we can take. This spiral signifies the many opportunities and choices we encounter, which can sometimes lead to confusion as we analyze and navigate our path.

After completing these classes, she continued to paint in her free time. She prefers to go with the flow and let her intuition guide her work. As a teenager, Mira discovered her passion for abstract painting, drawn to the expressive art movements and vibrant colors and shapes.

“Over time, I discovered that my best artwork comes from a blend of emotions and music.”

Music has become an essential part of her process, as she puts on her headphones to transport herself to a different place. This helps her be fully present and sparks her creative inspiration, allowing her to connect more deeply with her works of expressionism art.

The Dance of Passion | Acrylic

$700

47 X 35

A very dynamic painting full of positive emotions that portrays the act of a flawless and passionate dance, where nothing can stop you from feeling strong emotions and going beyond the impossible. It shows someone who embodies love, desire, enthusiasm, and deep commitment in life.

This painting expresses the feeling of helplessness we experience in life's challenging moments where we feel like we are unable to change them, and we feel trapped and lost as if there’s no way out.
The black box symbolizes the difficult situation, while the white dot inside represents the hope that remains. The yellow shape around the box, resembling an open human posture, shows that by holding onto hope, we can eventually break free and see the colors of life again.

Challenges Are Temporary; Keep Hope to See Colors | Acrylic

$330

24 X 20

Mira’s love for colors began in childhood, and she has always had a tendency to see shapes everywhere. These shapes can sometimes spark inspiration, but she uses them as intuitive starting points rather than pre-planned elements for her intuitive acrylic painting.

“I love the combination of expressive abstraction and deep meaning, as it shows how even seemingly simple art can go beyond just looking attractive to deeply touching people’s emotions and inspiring personal reflections.”

“I believe that all colors can be combined; one just needs to balance them to make them work well together in the final artwork.”

Often, she’ll notice a random detail and photograph it - not to replicate it in her expressive art, but to inspire the flow of her creative process. This method lets her include unexpected elements in her paintings, making each piece a unique exploration of color and form. She generally doesn’t draw inspiration from other artists, preferring to create her own style. Mira uses only acrylic paints because their quick-drying nature fits perfectly with her free-flowing expressionist painting.

Butterfly Wings | Acrylic

$600

32 X 24

The Butterfly Wings shows the journey of self-discovery and the challenge of accepting reality as it is before making it beautiful. In life, we often experience struggles that can break us if we let them. But, if we choose to grow and learn, we can evolve into something entirely new and better.

She enjoys painting on larger canvases and would even paint on walls if given the chance, feeling that even a large space might be too small for her creative vision. Her expressionist painting style features strong contrasts and she likes to challenge the rule that certain colors cannot be mixed. Although she hasn't formally studied color theory, she combines colors intuitively, as naturally as breathing. Mira selects hues that she feels will create a good contrast with other elements in her paintings, always taking risks by adding new colors to see how they interact.

Pure Woman | Acrylic

$600

47 X 16

A woman who can be everything. She is “real” by being herself and acting according to her feelings - no games, no plays. Just her, in her truest form, living authentically and on her own terms, not conforming to societal expectations.

Mira loves the combination of expressive abstraction and deep meaning, as it shows how even seemingly simple art can go beyond just looking attractive to deeply touching people’s emotions and inspiring personal reflections. Her paintings focus on various shapes and colors, and people often interpret them in different ways before fully understanding their meaning. She aims to raise the bar with each piece. At first glance, her expressive art captivates with bold colors, but a closer look reveals a deeper complexity in the color mixing. This reflects her understanding of color perception and emotional depth, with colors making a statement and conveying energy.

New beginnings can lead to something better, marking the start of a real journey. This painting captures that key moment when it's up to you to seize the opportunities and improve yourself and your life. The clock in the center represents the moment of change, with round paint splashes around it emphasizing the exact moment the transformation begins.

A New Beginning | Acrylic

$500

32 X 24

“Through my art, I capture life experiences and inner states, with each piece reflecting intense feelings - both positive and negative - and mirroring my evolving life journey.”

Inner Landscape | Acrylic

$500

47 X 16

People are complex and have many layers. The subtle black spots on the canvas are abstract representations of a person going through the discovery of their personality layers. However, the colors are the most important part of this painting, as they show the range of facets and the positive energy they create.

Mira likes to describe her paintings as a fresh approach to abstract expressionism. They are created with expressiveness but without the common repetition of shapes and colors. Her artistic process of emotional abstraction flows naturally between intuition and rationality, with her subconscious guiding the brush and her conscious mind interpreting the results. This is part of the beauty of her work - it's not obvious, but encourages viewers to think and explore. She hopes that viewers approach her art with curiosity and reflection to see if they can relate. Mira believes that each piece of art can be experienced differently by each viewer, making every interaction with her work unique.

This is an old painting I did when I was 15. It was my first abstract expressionist piece, which is why it’s called "The First Expression". It marks the beginning of my painting style, which I’ve been developing ever since. It’s when I first realized how much I love expressive art.

The First Expression | Acrylic

NFS

47 X 33

Feeling often lonely as a child, Mira found painting to be a means of understanding herself better. It reflects how expressionism art can be a deeply personal and transformative experience. With a vivid imagination and a tendency to live in her own world, painting has allowed her to experience life differently. To her, expressionist painting is akin to writing - a way to release what she holds inside and express her unique language. While writing conveys rich and often deep meaning through words, abstract paintings offer a different kind of freedom with their countless interpretations, allowing for a broader range of personal insights. She calls her art ‘The Journey of Feelings and Emotions.

A Sense of Control |Acrylic

NFS

47 X 33

I created this painting when I was 15 during my art classes. It shows a futuristic city being controlled by large machinery, represented by two fan-like shapes. The abstract design reflects how control comes from “above” and often goes unnoticed.

She says “Words are only a beginning; images have the power to convey what words often cannot - they speak where words fail.”
