Magnus Lindblom
SWEDEN

“I like birds very much and am fascinated by how they can have such personalities, both as different species but also as individuals. Birds regularly return as motifs in my art.”
Magnus grew up in southern Sweden in a small town close to nature and the Baltic Sea. A walk in the woods or sitting by the beach or a lake gives him peace and fills up with inspiration. His grandfather was a gardener. But in the winter when there was not much to do, he devoted himself to painting in oil. Magnus was inspired by his grandfather and also wanted to learn to draw and paint, but other interests in childhood and growing up and perhaps a lack of patience made the interest cool.

Light and dark – without one, the other cannot exist. A shadow, a glimmer of light. What hides in the shadow and what is revealed in the light? When you walk your path, don’t seek the light, don’t fear the dark. Explore! Enjoy! The road leads you home, even if you feel lost. The goal is always the place where you are right now.
Magnus has a university degree in computer science. After completing his studies, he moved to Stockholm, the capital of Sweden. There he worked as an electronics engineer and software developer. He also became interested in Asian culture philosophy and religion, including through the east asian museum. He began an evening course in Chinese calligraphy held by an ancient Chinese master in calligraphy and Chinese poetry.

The light, shimmering through the trees, brings life to all beings on this planet. Beings that were meant to live together in harmony. The beautiful butterfly gives her joy and peace inside. What simple things bring joy and peace to your life?
In 1995, he joined a group tour to China and attended a summer course at the China National Academy of Fine Arts in Hangzhou. This was very inspiring and life-changing for him to be able to study Chinese painting techniques and calligraphy in this historic city and with talented teachers such as the now-famous calligrapher Wang Dong Ling. One of Magnus's calligraphies was admitted to an international calligraphy exhibition in Hangzhou that year.
“Even as a child, I often went out a lot in nature with my parents and the love of the Swedish landscape still characterizes me.”
Magnus's life took another turn in 2004 when, due to too much stress, he suffered from burnout. As a way to rehabilitate himself and get an outlet for what was inside him, he began to paint with a group of amateur artists in the local art association. To his surprise, he discovered that his creativity had taken on a new level and to learn more, he acquired some books by watercolorist Robert Wade. Watercolor which had already been close to his heart, became his expression with these books. They also taught him how to mix colors and compose motifs.

She carries the new world. A world of peace, joy, and freedom. She holds it in love and care, knowing everything will be fine. But what we see around us today is not this golden world – it is the old world falling apart. Old systems try desperately to hold on to power and control, and so does part of ourselves. We need to trust the process of birthing this new world, even if it sometimes hurts and is messy. How do you wish this new world to be?
Powerful and beautiful.
Nothing escapes the eye of the hawk.
It sees through illusions, cuts through lies.
Use your own “hawk eye” to dissolve the illusions of the world.

In the following years, he slowly developed his talent and began to participate in local exhibitions in the Stockholm area. Around 2021 he started painting with another artist group where he met an older lady who taught him the basics of graphics. Magnus learned simple techniques such as linoleum printing and dry etch graphics and found great pleasure in the magic of seeing a finished print come out from the old printing press. Through YouTube, he was also inspired to try to make acrylic pour which he now finds great pleasure in experimenting with.
“To cultivate is also to come into contact with the miracles of life: to put a seed and see it grow and as a reward for the work, eat organic food. What's better than picking ripe tomatoes straight from the plant and putting them in my salad or pasta?”
“Many say that an artist's task is to depict the present. I think that the artist's role is to convey that more is possible, to rise above the vision of what is conveyed in mainstream media, and to inspire people to find their own greatness and to show that there is hope.”
There is nothing better if art can inspire others to find their own joy, as it did for Magnus. In 2021 he also wanted to try to see if his art could get a larger audience, so he joined CFA - Cricle Foundation of Arts and was accepted as a featured artist there. This led to him being invited to some exhibitions in Europe, and in 2022 he participated for the first time in an exhibition abroad: Anima Mundi art festival in Venice. Magnus thought it was very exciting.

Water. An element that is so soft and may be so calm. Yet it has enormous power. When strong winds move it, it can erode shorelines or destroy a ship. When your life is stormy, you need to learn how to surf, how to float, and not try to stop the waves. Practice with small waves first, then you will be ready when the big ones arrive.
The following year he again participated in an exhibition in Italy, this time in the ancient city of Matera, organized by Apulia Aste. This time he felt that he wanted to participate in person, so even if the trip was exhausting, the experience of seeing the city of Matera and being part of the opening ceremony there and talking to other artists and art lovers was worth the effort. Art truly allows an artist to communicate, evolve emotions, and get new perspectives.

The Gathering | Acrylic

“When two or three or more are gathered together in my Name, I will be in the midst of them” Matt 18:20 .
In addition to painting, he writes novels: one has already been published in Swedish and a few more are underway. But there is a lot of work to write and edit so it takes time. To balance all the creative stuff, Magnus also has a small allotment, where he grows vegetables and some flowers. He thinks it's a nice contrast to dig in the earth and become more grounded, be more physical and real.
As rivers and streams flow to the sea, so is all coming and going. This moment when you are reading these words, you will soon return to the everlasting present. Your soul, living here as a human being, will one day return to the source where it came from. This lifetime – how will you use it? What will you leave behind? Planting seed for the future, is why we are here.

Strenuously she pursued her goals, until one day she sat down, exhausted and empty inside. In her own authentic nakedness, she asked, “Who am I really?” “Why am I here?” A stillness came upon her and in a flash, she saw a vision. So filled with love and beauty, she could hardly believe it. “Trust,” an inner voice said. “Take one small step, then another. No haste, no effort. Just trust the vision”. And she did.
To experiment with colors, he sets his creativity free, and it brings him immense joy. Art and writing can easily become very visionary and mental. More recently, Magnus has noticed that his motives and intentions in painting are about conveying hope. That there is more to life than just what is conveyed in mainstream media, there are alternatives to doom and gloom. Humanity is in a time of great upheavals and opportunities for enormous development into something completely new.
Close to where I live is a natural reserve. Every spring, migrating birds come – some will stay, some will just pause on their way north. Watching the different birds with their many forms and colors, reminds me of how rich and full of life this planet is.

However, there are forces that want to keep the world in their control. It is when every individual in society collectively chooses to connect with their own inner vision, and how they really want to live, that the world can break out of old structures. Together in groups and communities, mankind can, piece by piece, transform this society and the world into a planet of peace, harmony, and balance.

Mermaid in Lost City |Watercolor

Lost for thousands of years, forgotten under the surface of the ocean. Now it is home for fishes and mermaids, but who were they who lived here before it was flooded? What more is hiding at the bottom of the sea? We are not the first civilization here, and we will not be the last.
“Art is an expression of the soul. Art is sharing the beauty and magic of life, of nature and humanness.”
