Lynn Movish

“I have had a wonderful childhood and despite living in a small town it always felt as if it was the center of the world.”
Lynn was born in the Catskill Mountains during its bustling and magical era. Her father was a waiter at one of the large hotels and this gave her incredible access to all famous celebrities, comedians, and musical groups as well as the members of their vacationing families.
Bewitched | Mixed Media
$3,250
Finding a "Bewitched" box takes a bit of magic, but I knew that adding crystals was a perfect way to convey the sparkle of Samantha, the main character. The colors of the box are sharp and vibrant. The density of small crystals along with choosing the type of pattern allows this box to have a magnificent shimmer. The front and back have completely different graphics, adding a different color palette entirely.
The fact that she had grown up in such a blissful town made it particularly heartbreaking when the world changed, and the town fell into decay. This profound experience influences her art: she takes discarded relics from a happy childhood and brings them back to life.
The Lone Ranger | Mixed Media
$4,950
The colors , gold, pink and red, on this box conveys the barren terrain of the Wild West. The black streaks behind the Lone Ranger emphasize the speed of his galloping horse. These are the type of details that drew me to this box. I added a rolling gradient to the top and sides - yellows, golds, oranges, reds and more - to represent the western sunset that I imagined the Lone Ranger faced as he rode off to his next adventure.
After attending Michigan State University, Lynn combined her business acumen with her artistic flair and started a specialty advertising company focusing on the food and liquor industry. She has worked with some of the largest brands in the world including Gatorade, Cap ’n Crunch, Life Cereal, Aunt Jemima, Tootsie Roll, Double Bubble, Corona Extra, Pacifico, and Model Especial beer.
“After a successful career, I began exploring the artistic world simply for the purity of bringing joy.”
Movish’s various endeavors included creating stained glass mosaics using discarded bottles, and coasters constructed from vintage children’s storybooks. Her mission was consistent– take the discarded and unwanted and bring them back to life with color and vibrancy.

The Flintstones | Mixed Media
$3,500
Each of the 5 sides of the Flintstone box are different. All the characters are represented and the art conveys non stop action. To maintain the detail of the underlying art, the crystals were so small they were applied with a toothpick and straight pin. I felt lucky to have finished this box before Swarovski discontinued the bright yellow crystal that trims all the edges. A color perfect to frame all there colors of this box.
Working with the existing large and bold graphics, I made additions to areas that were solid blue and plain. The back side which reads, "jaime Madeline", I added sprigs of lavender representing France where she attended boarding school. At the top of the box, I created a two tone argyll pattern, giving this area more pizzazz without overpowering the simpleness of the box. To the two narrow sides, I added a sun with cloud like flowers and an umbrella in rain. One of my favorites!

Madeline | Mixed Media
$4,800
Art is about seeing light, but Lynn’s art is also about creating light. The joy of her art begins with a treasure hunt– a journey into simpler times when lunchtime was fun time and a welcome reprieve from the confines of the classroom. Through resale shops, flea markets, and online bidding, she finds discarded vintage lunchboxes that speak to her in different ways.
“I often say, ‘If you see joy, you will feel joy. If you surround yourself with the things you love, you will live in a happy place.’”
“The desire to also bring a sense of simplicity and nostalgia, with all the sparkle the eyes can handle, led me to the lunchbox series. My journey from concept to completion is to focus on happiness. It is as if the objects I choose for the series say, ‘I am still here and I’m better than ever!’”
Lynn’s Cinderella box brings feelings of hope and romance, her Jetson’s box is all about possibilities, Lost in Space brings adventure and excitement, and Madeline is Lynn; a small, fearless girl. The lunch boxes are often scratched, rusty, or faded but they make for a wonderful base for telling a story.

Cinderella | Mixed Media
$3,300
The magic of Cinderella is created with sparkle and glitter making this a very easy fit for my art. I used several different techniques in the crystal placement - the linear and scatter method for example - making the light bounce off the crystals as if actual candles are lit or her dress twinkles as is she were really dancing. All 4 sides are different scenes from the story and take us on Cinderellas journey from rags to riches.
Lynn meticulously applies Swarovski crystals to the lunchbox one crystal at a time. This takes extraordinary patience, but she believes that patience needs to be practiced over and over until it becomes part of your true self. People who have viewed her work not only are astounded by its brilliance of color and light but often remark, ‘Oh God, how did you do this?’

Lost in Space | Mixed Media
$4,999
The dark sky and the domed shape of this box emphasize the vast size of the world outside the one we live in. Each side of this box tells a story of the mysterious planet the Robinson family experience while lost in space. From monsters, to aliens, to strange terrain, the detail brought to life, often with extremely small crystals, was no easy feat. Crystal size and color add shading which gives more depth to the finished box.
The lunch boxes the artist chooses coincide with the onset of a television in every home and reflect the popular culture at that time. It was a marketing bonanza; kids were taking their favorite television shows to school with them. A child’s choice of lunchbox not only told a story but was also a personal statement and Lynn honors this in her art.
Finding this rare and round box was really a treat. The dotted graphics were a natural fit for crystals and the colors reminded me of the vintage dot candy on paper strips. The opposite side contains a true to character quote - "If you obey all the rules, you miss all the fun". The art on the box has a feeling like the art of Roy Lichtenstein. His painting "Crying" creates the same type of emotion as Blondies exclamation.

Blondie | Mixed Media
$2,750
“I am fascinated by finding beauty in everyday objects and the more representative they are of innocence and
simpler times, the better.”

Curious George | Marker
$4,700
The colors and characters of the Curious George series are basic but when crystals are added those same colors "Pop" and sparkle. I added a few elements to break up the simple graphics such as flowers in the grass and cloud color variation , All 4 sides are different - George flying a kite , bike riding in a park, flying to the moon and lifting off the ground with helium balloons.
While the primary image remains true, Lynn adds her artistic expression by choosing the crystal color and size, adding gradients, and adding subtle design features without compromising on the integrity of the underlying design. The fun part is that no one knows exactly what is under the glitter.
The Jetson box emphasizes living up high with each side, different in scene, a beautiful blue sky in the background, I used a variety of placement methods as a way to reflect the flow and movement of the atmosphere. The detailed characters also meant using very small crystals which lengthen the completion time. The colors feel reminiscent of cartoons of the 60's and 70's and a have a special playful glitter in the light. The Jetsons are a happy memory of a bright future.

The Jetsons | Mixed Media
$3,500
She remembers the epiphany she had the first time she saw Andy Warhol’s painting of Campbell's soup cans and remembers, stacking cans from her mother’s cupboard onto the kitchen table and proclaiming it a work of great artistic achievement! For Lynn, however, the object must also have the natural warmth of nostalgia when brought back to life with elegance.

Snow White |Mixed Media
$3,300
The story of Snow White has always felt near and dear to my heart. Her optimistic spirit is never dampened by rejection, the darkness of the forest, or fear of the unknown. I searched for this box for quite some time. The colors are warm and inviting reflecting Snow White's love of nature. On the back side, the crystals create a moon glow effect as Snow White greets the forest animals. The sides have a lovely flower vine design which inspired me to add a random pattern of flowers to the top.
“I am influenced by the work of Jeffrey Koons who often takes household objects and places them in a different context forcing the viewer to recognize its inherent beauty.”
