Linda Pettersson

SWEDEN

Yellow and Black Photography Quote (1).p

“The world of art is a free world with no rules to follow."

In a house in the middle of Sweden, you can find a self-taught abstract artist. Her name is Linda Pettersson. Her paintings are often colorful and expressive and give room for the viewer to make their own experience.

The need to be creative started at a young age for Linda and has always been about feelings. Some people feel everything easily and Linda is one of them. In the beginning, everything did not go according to the plan. It often was overwhelming and hard to handle.

She found her love in music and writing and it was something she spent a lot of time doing. But there was always something missing — always that little piece of just something. Linda always struggled to find that missing piece but it was not easy to uncover it.

“When I found my creativity, I also found my feelings to be quite powerful.”

Linda was born and raised in Sweden with her mother, father, sister, and brother. She is the youngest child and the one who likes to do things backward. She started her own family at a young age and now, at the age of 30, she is living with her husband and three children.

Her interest in art, she believes, comes from her family — like her father and grandfather. Her interest in art and creating her own art has been a hidden part of her life until now. She has felt her love for art and will always keep it with her.

“An ongoing process is a never-ending process, a world full of creativity but also the struggle of being an artist.”

“The way of an artist isn’t always straight and easy, as an artist you live for the creativity, but no one can guarantee you it will stay consistent.”

In every painting she creates, there are always hidden feelings behind it. However, it is up to the viewer to feel whatever they feel when they look at it. She creates her painting in many layers and mostly uses scrapes or spatulas to make the patterns.

Linda creates to feel the feeling of fullness and happiness. She puts the first layers on the canvas — feeling the joy and power with it. When the canvas is filled with this first layer the next challenge starts. It’s like she needs to continue to write the story, but the story has never begun.

That’s one thing Linda wants to highlight. The story has never been started, not even with the first layers. The story isn’t hers to write. The mind and all the thoughts in her head that make her create the first layers but also all the layers after that are just being transformed into colors. So, what happens to the story? All artists must have a story. Shouldn't they?

All the next layers of colors are truly a creation of thoughts – colorful thoughts. In that exact moment, it stays there and the next day of work is a new layer of thoughts — more colorful thoughts. So, when she leaves the painting to be viewed, the story is open. It’s open for all of those who look, feel, and think. What do they see? What do they think? What do they feel?

So even if she starts the process, continues it, and ends it, she believes the process starts all over again with the viewer and continues to be an ongoing process. She believes this is the beauty of art. Even though she may disappoint some people by not bringing the story, she will keep the process going.

“My journey as an artist has just begun and hopefully it will continue for a long time.”
