Karines Nieves Rosado

USA

Yellow and Black Photography Quote (1).p

"I believe everyone holds an artist waiting to be discovered."

For Karines Nieves Rosado, being an artist is driven not only by passion but also by a deep desire to surpass the limitations of convention. Art has always been a space where she can express her true self without restraint, yet it is also where she experiences the greatest personal challenge. She finds meaning in the difficulty of the creative process—it compels her to examine more closely, think more deeply, and constantly ask herself, “What else is possible?”

Sensual Intrigue | Acrylic

20 X 24

A bold, expressive face brought to life with vibrant colors and dimensional structure. The pop art elements add depth and intensity, making the face feel like it’s breaking through the surface—confrontational, vivid, and impossible to ignore. It was an exploration of identity, expression, and the power of color to command attention.

As a realist artist, Karines takes immense joy in the intricate details of the world around her. She is fascinated by the subtle changes in light, the nuances in skin texture, the intricacies of fabric, and the emotional depth that can be conveyed through shadow. Realism enables her to engage with her surroundings in a direct, grounded way. For her, it is about observing carefully and interpreting honestly, capturing a moment or a subject with clarity and truth. This process of seeing and translating with care provides her with a steady, fulfilling joy.

Aguacates | Acrylic

8 X 10

Avocados are rooted in my memory—each brushstroke a reflection of home and the cultural ties that surround this simple fruit. I chose avocados not just for their form and color, but for the warmth and familiarity they hold. Through layered textures and rich greens, I aimed to capture a sense of comfort, tradition, and belonging. It’s more than a still life; it’s a personal connection to where I come from.

Still, Karines acknowledges that realism, while beautiful and disciplined, can sometimes feel limiting. In the pursuit of technical perfection, there’s a danger of becoming too rigid—of losing the spontaneity, experimentation, or personal voice that fuels creativity. Over time, she has come to understand that realism offers a solid foundation, but real artistic growth often begins beyond its borders. For her, creativity must not be confined. That realization has pushed her to venture into spaces that lie outside the strict parameters of realism.

"I explore emotion and complexity through many mediums and techniques."

She continually challenges herself to let go of precision and embrace freedom. By asking, “What happens when I step away from accuracy?” she opens doors to new discoveries. This process of questioning has become central to her evolution as an artist. It allows her to uncover hidden layers within herself—parts that remain unexplored until she gives herself permission to break the rules. She believes that adaptability is one of the most powerful qualities an artist can possess.

Sunset Sky | Acrylic

30 X 40

I wanted to capture the energy and warmth of an afternoon sky through bold colors and expressive brushstrokes. Rather than aiming for realism, I focused on the emotional atmosphere—using vibrant hues and sweeping gestures to convey light, movement, and the fleeting feeling of that time of day. It’s a visual interpretation of how the sky feels in a single, vivid moment.

This colored pencil drawing celebrates the simple joy of chocolate cookies—warm, rich, and a little nostalgic. I focused on texture and shading to capture their gooey, crumbly goodness, using rich browns and warm tones to make them feel almost real. It’s a playful and comforting piece, drawn with love for one of life’s sweetest little pleasures.

Through experimentation with a range of techniques, styles, and materials, Karines keeps her work vibrant and dynamic. She has learned to trust the process, even when the outcome is uncertain. To her, this uncertainty is not a setback but an opportunity—it’s where the most honest and profound artistic breakthroughs often occur. She values this fluidity, knowing that the journey itself is just as important as the final piece.

"I create to connect, to share my journey and emotion, hoping others feel something real, through curiosity, reflection, or even a spark of creativity."

"Realism grounds me. It sharpens my eye and deepens my connection to the world in a direct and tangible way. It teaches me to observe closely, to notice the quiet details, and to translate those truths with care. There is a steady joy in capturing something honestly, seeing it fully, then honoring it through my work. But I have also learned that too much focus on precision can become a box. In chasing technical perfection, I sometimes lose the spark, the spontaneity, the experimentation, and the personal voice that gives my art life. I began exploring what lies beyond that structure, allowing more freedom, intuition, and emotional honesty to guide me. This shift has become central to my creative journey. It is through expanding my approach that I continue to grow and uncover deeper parts of myself."

Karines works across a wide spectrum of media, including graphite pencil, colored pencil, watercolor, acrylic, and mixed media. Each material presents its own set of possibilities and challenges. Graphite portraits allow her to explore delicate transitions in tone and value. Watercolors offer a sense of unpredictability and flow. Acrylics invite her to be bold and expressive. With mixed media, she can merge all of these approaches into something unique—something that reflects complexity, layering, and the organic nature of creativity.

Portrait II | Graphite

5 X 7

This graphite pencil drawing was made as a personal gift for my sister—a way to express love, gratitude, and the bond we share. I focused on detail and emotion, letting the softness of the medium reflect warmth and care. Every line was drawn with her in mind, making it more than just an image—it’s a piece of my heart, given to someone who means so much to me.

Her art mirrors her personality: structured yet spontaneous, meticulous yet imaginative. Karines resists the idea of limiting herself to a single mode of expression or a fixed definition of what art should be. She views each new creation as a dialogue between control and freedom, between discipline and improvisation. These dualities are not opposing forces but rather two sides of the same coin, each one informing and enhancing the other.

Bird I | Colorpencil

5 X 5

This colored pencil drawing of a black bird is a quiet tribute to my personal love for birds—their freedom, mystery, and grace. I focused on capturing the textures of the feathers and the deep, shifting tones within the black plumage. To me, this bird represents more than its form; it's a symbol of presence, resilience, and the beauty found in everyday moments with nature.

At the heart of her artistic practice is a desire to connect—first with herself, and then with others. Every artwork she creates carries a piece of her journey, her energy, and her voice. She pours both dedication and emotion into her process, and her deepest hope is that viewers can sense that connection. Whether it’s the fine detail in a realistic portrait or the bold emotion of an abstract painting, she aims to evoke something real and resonant in the hearts of others.

A study in capturing both realism and the fluid motion of water and life with this Koi Fish painting. I focused on the natural flow of their bodies, the play of light on scales, and the subtle distortions created by water. Balancing detailed rendering with dynamic composition, I aimed to bring the scene to life—not just as a visual, but as a moment in motion.

"I adapt, explore, and trust the process to discover truth."

Self Portrait | Watercolor

8 X 10

This watercolor self-portrait was an attempt to push the limits of the medium—experimenting with layering, texture, and controlled chaos. While rooted in realism, I allowed the paint to move unpredictably at times, letting water, pigment, and gesture speak for themselves. It’s both a study of my likeness and a challenge to traditional watercolor technique, blending precision with freedom.

Karines wants her art to inspire curiosity and introspection—and perhaps even awaken the creative spirit in others. She firmly believes that everyone has an inner artist, though it may sometimes be hidden or hesitant to emerge. Her own path has shown her that growth comes from taking risks, changing direction, and accepting mistakes along the way. If her work encourages someone to pick up a pencil or see the world with new eyes, she considers that a deeply meaningful accomplishment.

This was an exploration in letting go of control and embracing a looser, more expressive approach. Instead of focusing on perfect realism, I played with bold brushstrokes, texture, and spontaneous color choices to capture their energy and organic form. It was a shift toward painting what I feel more than what I see—allowing the medium to guide the process.

Tomates | Acrylic

$150

12 X 12

Her artistic journey is ongoing. Karines is always learning, adapting, and reshaping her understanding of what art can be. Yet one truth remains constant for her: art is a profound vehicle for connection, self-exploration, and transformation. It is this enduring belief that fuels her creative spirit and keeps her returning to the canvas, again and again.

Gata | Acrylic

40 X 16

A focused effort to push my skills in realism—capturing fine details like fur texture, light reflection in the eyes, and the subtle shifts in color across the coat. I aimed to go beyond just likeness, working to convey the cat’s personality and presence through precise brushwork and careful layering.

"I evolve through art, always seeking connection, growth, and meaning."
