Jordana Rae Gassner

GERMANY

Yellow and Black Photography Quote (1).p

"Whatever form my artwork takes, at its core, it is a clarion call for freedom, sovereignty, and unconditional love for humans and life on earth."

All the artwork Jordana creates, are at their surface level a clarion call for freedom, sovereignty, and unconditional love for humans and life on earth. From that basis forward, she feels she is free to create criticisms, empirical studies of right action or right thought or undertake examinations of potential future worlds within and without mind and body experience.

Discus | Oil

$4,000

47 X 47

Discus is inspired by the athletes who compete in the event of the same name. It's an attempt at capturing the physical movement and joy of using one's body in a test of strength. The work is also on a level of working towards a place in time of one's future– looking ahead at what we need to do to get where we want to go.

Her paintings are psychological manifestos that playfully bring the human psyche into confrontation with nature and the other way around. But what can mostly be said to be true about her work is that she rather brings something of the unknown, the eternal and the transcendental to canvas, something so unfathomable like the human psyche itself. In this sense, she falls obviously into the tradition of the abstract expressionists who thought of painting, “not as a picture but as an event.”

Run for It | Oil

$4,500

40 X 59

"A twist on a famous footwear company's motto, "Run for it" could mean a few things, such as perhaps someone needs to get out of a situation quickly (or get caught), but it could also be "Go for it" and encouraging one to make haste in the pursuit of their heart's desires."

While believing in the individual’s will and self-sufficiency, Gassner rejects dualism and perceives the spirit as one with the body – and by extension, as one with the artists’ intelligence. In this manner, she sees painting as a way to access the subconscious and, therefore. access to eternal knowledge as her paintings manifest the ultimate connection of humans with their environment.

"I reject dualism and perceive the spirit as one with the body – and in extension, as one with my own intelligence."

Believing in “psychic automatism,” Gassner’s works are improvised color explosions that aim to reveal the inner world of the artist, claiming an organic wholeness over division. By bringing forth the personal, intimate aspects of her own experiences, she makes her work universally relevant.

Kuhlshrank | Oil

$2,500

39 X 31

A piece named after the German word for 'refrigerator.' So much of our lives revolve around food; there is gratitude for the tech advancement that allowed us to forego ice block deliveries, and there's the standing in front of the door wondering what to eat (sometimes in boredom, and sometimes yearning for something that is not there nudging on an idea of "do we earn enough to put food on the table." Lastly, the scars from having one's stomach stapled to reduce one's body size via surgery.

A word in German the artist was told describes someone who drives very fast, maybe a race car driver? This work is a joyous expression of race cars and Indy 500's; muscle cars and speed.

AffenZahn | Oil

$2,500

39 X 31

What Jordana’s paintings achieve is to become mirrors of our own existence and reflect inner processes by freeing us from judgement and rhetoric. In this way, her paintings invite us to enter the sphere of transcendentalism and become co-pilots, with the only luggage being our own understanding and emotional identification with the work.

"What I wish my paintings to achieve is to become mirrors of our own existence and reflect inner processes by freeing us from judgment and rhetoric."

"Life and landscape, almost reminding me of Renaissance or baroque historical paintings, I express new scenes with violent brushstrokes and dripping color patterns."

Unlike other abstract painters of her generation, Gassner’s every work is equally powerful and highly charged with gestural creativity. Spending endless hours contemplating her work, Gassner has finally achieved what for many artists, remains a mystery; a visual language that is free from artistic jargon and stereotypes, figurative pre-conceptions, and recognizability.

Up at Dawn | Oil

$5,000

63 X 47

Prevelant is an abstract rooster, his comb at the top of the piece, his human face looking in profile to the left. It is a treatise on our masculine energies getting put into play; what we give out into the world, what we crow about, our leadership, our glory, and strut. He's gorgeous.

Where her titles reservedly reveal her subject matter, there is always the feeling that the real action is being concealed from the viewer, like a diary with the most intimate thoughts and truths, and one has to spend time with the paintings in order to become part of the process of deciphering them. The color brush strokes look like figures, drawing influences from the still.

Just a Phase | Oil

$5,000

63 X 47

Inspired by timepieces and the obsession with what watch one owns/wears. This is a throwback to pocket watches also reminding us of a pendulum swinging, that things are often "just a phase", and "this too will pass". This reminds us also of the rabbit in Alice in Wonderland and how deep down the rabbit hole we can get (in our understanding).

Jordana loves to name her works after stars and cosmic elements, like an ancient shaman or Greek poet who calls upon their muse for inspiration. In a similar process, her works are worked over layer after layer, until the depth of the viewing field is achieved. Every time one looks at the paintings, there is a new truth to be brought forth.

It's almost like a burning desire for what we REALLY want to be in life, do in life. There is this small sort of figure/being in the upper left quadrant, walking on a bridge of their own yearning's making, helping them cross the abyss to discover the endless worlds of experience and beauty just waiting for them to access.

Set Your Sighs | Oil

$4,000

47 X 47

"I love to name my works after stars and cosmic elements, like an ancient shaman or Greek poet who calls upon their muse for inspiration."

Dono | Oil

$4,000

47 X 47

Like a big pink-red ribbon on all we've ever desired, just waiting for us, Dono's name is based on the Latin for "gift" - also yamming up the now cliché that the "present" is a "gift" to be appreciated. Live in the moment, be present, engage, ....fully, completely, totally.

Many people have reported being drawn to her work because they feel an innate resonance, maybe they have long forgotten, and feel it as an antidote for the currently prevalent global cancel culture. The materials she uses tend to be of the non-plastic variety as she feels they hold a piece of naturalness, lacking in industrialized, artificial-intelligence-ized communities and prefers her materials, in general, to not require practices detrimental to the planet.

Diva is living in all their beautiful drama and joy. They commandeer us, they need their attention and they're usually big teddy bears at heart (exceptions may apply!).

Diva | Oil

$5,000

57 X 57

The artist personally feels that her works are often manifested as mystical, magical creations interspersed with an almost unrestrained defense of living to our highest potential. Her works are definitely the antithesis of fast art as they take many months to cure. Drawing inspiration from meditation practices, Jordana Rae Gassner creates works that seek to facilitate the transition from the inner hidden worlds to the world of the real society.

Dog with Bike | Oil

$5,000

57 X 57

A look at how grateful one is for the pups. They jog dutifully by our sides on our bike rides, keep us company, bring us companionship and this combination to see in the parks in Germany is always something that brings a smile.

"With bold brushstrokes and abstracts, all the while maintaining their harmony, I hope my works bring a piece of nature to one’s home and support a language of appreciation for all living things."
