"Creating art is like breathing to me. I have to do it. I have to paint. I have to create."

Jennifer Hannigan-Green is a Midwest native born in Chicago, Illinois. She attended Eastern New Mexico University, where she earned her Bachelor's degree in Painting and acquired teaching licenses in French and visual art.

We all need a space that reconnects us to our soul. My place is in nature. I try to cultivate a garden each year that helps me find peace, find solace, find myself. It is in the garden that I find happiness. As I started my garden planting in the spring, I felt the energy of the flowers and trees around me. Their energy inspired me and was a great reminder that with each season comes new ideas and adventures.

After completing her education, Jennifer moved back to the Midwest and settled on the Sunset Coast of Michigan, where she now resides in Benton Harbor. She has built a multifaceted career as both an artist and an elementary art teacher.

During the COVID shutdown, I thought a lot about my ancestors - those I knew, those I never met. I realized that family before me endured so much from famine, war and even personal demons and struggles. If they could do it, I certainly could. I chose earth tones to illustrate our connection with our family tree. We are merely branches extended from love. The simplistic forms embedded in each other shows that we are rooted in our loved ones, bringing forth light and love.

Jennifer continued her academic journey by obtaining a Master of Education degree from Grand Canyon University, which further honed her expertise in the field of education.

"I am a figurative abstract painter... illustrating my walk through life."

In the realm of art, Jennifer has had a series of significant accomplishments. Her work has been showcased internationally, with digital exhibitions in prestigious institutions like the Louvre in Paris, France. She has also received the honor of an American Art Award, solidifying her position as a prominent artist.

"Color is a heavy emphasis in my work. I use color as my voice, speaking to the emotional connection I feel with others and the world around me."

Jennifer is known for her figurative abstract paintings. Her artistic style has evolved over the years, transitioning from landscape painting to a more simplified and expressive approach that reflects her personal journey through life

My grandfather, my first art teacher, would share his love for art with me whenever he could. While we drew together, our imagination had no bounds. Our creativity was limitless.

"I capture emotional stories through my use of color and shapes."

Prayer can be very powerful. It unites us with our Creator, brings us inner peace, and allows us to release our worries. When we pray, we are never alone. Our loved ones are in our prayers - always.

Her art serves as a medium for sharing profound and deeply personal moments. Jennifer employs color and shape to capture emotional stories, and she has a penchant for simplifying subjects into basic forms, which enhances the impact of her chosen colors.

Siblings have a unique bond. When siblings are close, they create a relationship that surpasses any friendship. They enjoy each other's company; they have fun with each other; they connect with each. They are like peas in a pod.

Often, Jennifer works in series, exploring various aspects of a particular moment or emotion. Her art delves into a range of feelings, from grief and love to sadness and joy.

Siblings have a unique bond. Even when there is an age-difference, siblings unite generations creating a special relationship. Their friendship can create life-long companions.

As a dedicated artist and educator, Jennifer actively participates in local, regional, and national art shows, further contributing to her recognition and presence within the art community.

As I was sitting at my sister's wedding, the love between my sister and her new husband was inspirational. During their first dance, their arms were intertwined together, linking each other's lives, being each other's support system, and building memories and a life together. I chose more earthy, metallic tones of golds and bronzes, illustrating the strength and love the newlyweds had for each other.

"Through my work, I want to connect with others, reminding them that they are not alone."

We may be a small family, but our love is powerful. Together we create a circle of love, with pure joy at the center of our lives.

Beyond her artistic pursuits, Jennifer plays multiple roles in her life, including being a daughter, wife, mother, and teacher. She is also involved in coaching youth basketball and has a deep appreciation for nature.

The series "Alignment" focuses on just that - how we can be in balance and harmony. Using the crown chakra, we can affirm to ourselves that we release doubt and welcome faith and wisdom. By unlocking our crown chakra, we can feel at peace knowing that we are one with the universe.

The experiences Jennifer gathers from various facets of her life serve as a wellspring of inspiration for her art. Through her creative expression, she finds a powerful voice to share her story and connect with others on an emotional level, exemplifying Helen Keller's belief that the most beautiful things in the world must be felt with the heart.

The series "Alignment" focuses on just that - how we can be in balance and harmony. Using our third eye, we can open ourselves for clear thoughts, self-reflection and intuition. We learn to trust ourselves, allow love to fill us, and truly have a deepened sense of faith in our inner wisdom.

"My experiences from these other parts of my life inspire my work, giving me a voice to share and connect with others through my art."
