Apart from trying to establish a connection with the unknown, through his work, another goal for Gustav Filipsons is to create artwork that would carry a sense of novelty. If not entirely new, then some original kind of work, expressing oneself in terms of artistic form inside abstractionism.

In this artwork I tried to depict a persons state of mind when driven by isolation and fear to live. The person overcomes his or her own fears and finds a source in oneself to keep a heart warm and loving despite the cold environment and sense of dissolution.
For his work, Gustav usually uses oil, color, spray paint, gloss, scratching, acrylic, canvas, plywood, brushes of different widths and forms, and stencils. Usually, he paints layer on layer until the actual artwork emerges from different kinds of forms and images.

The work is about reaching a harmony, balance between different aspects we face in life, but which must be coped with even care .To find this one must seek deep in oneself to answer the question who we really are.Only then can we know what we really need to be happy and prosperous.Its again a way to reach a freedom.
To create a new work, he almost always finds some original sketch and uses it as a base to further develop his work. The interesting fact here is that he always finds them unconsciously and unintentionally. As if they come to him on his own. He then goes further and lets his intuition guide him along the way.
“To find the connection with our true selves which I believe is something common we all possess.”
The purpose of developing a technique in the process of creation is to let the unintentional become intentional. That is why it first hand appears to be brutal work, just like a volcano that erupts.

The artwork 'Continuity'' is a maze like script on canvas. Everything in this world starts and ends within some frame we always call Lifespan, but its only a tiny part we actually are as a beings. Most of it is lost to occupy our mind and soul solely within the frame we are given. Each has a task to fulfill. Everything continues. Goes somewhere to somewhere. The sign like picture symbolizes an imprint kind of image. For me its like a blueprint of ones life.
Artwork ''Face'' is about human striving to maintain his or her self identity.In order to function In our society we have to obey the rules of common behaviour and how we see the world.People tend to dislike the ones that feel or think differently.A man is much more than a social being.Our life is much more than physical existence itself.We are universes in Universe.One must go against the stream to maintain the wholeness of mind, that is a much bigger consciousness than the one of a mob.

The artist is interested in the pure logic of interconnection of certain images which had aroused unintentionally in the process of such painting and have acquired certain logic. The same is true for spaces and their relations in painting that seem flat for the untrained eye but have depth within.

The artwork''Construct'' represents the idea itself.Something that has appeared in mind and has no special identified meaning, but what is substantial enough to occupy ones mind and has a capacity to overwhelm it, demanding to shape this idea and find revelation in it.
His large-format, abstract paintings are convincing because of their radical formal language, which is characterized by vitality. Regarding composition, he mostly dispenses with a ‘classical’ structure, such as a pictorial center.

The artwork''Runner'' is about a feeling of freedom, while being in a motion - both spiritually and physically.Depth in a plane surface - active motion where there is little space to move.The inner possibility of man to take action within and move himself or herself even there is no place, or space, or time.To be alive no matter what it takes - just set yourself in motion.And be alive.All horizons are in us to reach.

This artwork is about the abstract landscape with structures representing force and keeping ones positions stern.The futuristic landscape is dominated by three tower like objects.At the same time they possess a similarity to a living beings.They are guardians of ones integrity.Without it we are left to be vulnerable and helpless.
Our faith, compassion and love could be their names.
Even if he is inspired by chance and open to novelty, he leaves nothing to pure chance but guides his painting tools skillfully and with a sure hand. Lively gestures are withdrawn or additionally accentuated until an expressive form is created.
The artwork ''Night sky'' is seen from two different perspectives. You can see it as an a portrait of an intimidating creature under the stars at night, or a robot like machine landed on some planet in Universe. Actually it a visitor. As a visitor it has arrived from the place where it has come from. Question is what for. Its looks are friendly and open, why to be afraid of it. The other that delves in this image is a bit more scary. One should be aware of the other side in our minds, too.

Sometimes Gustavs Filipsons also takes stencils, which he intuitively surrounds with color in many layers. In doing so, he shifts them many times until the resulting structures show the right tension. The works are never boring, no two are alike. Moreover, his paintings dispense with a concrete message in favor of a kind of introspection.
