“My art is not only a way to express myself, but also a therapeutic path of self-discovery.”
Artist Gurmehar was born in India and grew up in China. Having grown up and been schooled in an international environment, immersed throughout in a multi-cultural atmosphere, she has always been fascinated with the unique cultural elements and stories from all over the world. She feels blessed to have been brought up as a Third Culture Kid (TCK) and considers herself (as well as her art) from the world.

Golden Temple- a Sikh Temple in my hometown, Amritsar. This is not only spiritually important to me, but also special to me because it is in my hometown, the place where I was born. I stitched my own hair in all four directions, to represent as a symbol of openness to all, irrespective of any discrimination, Golden Temple has open doors in all four directions.
After following art as a passion since her middle school days, she honed her skills by doing a master’s in visual arts (Studio Art) in Hong Kong. She has had several solo exhibitions in China and has gained recognition for her art globally. She also does workshops with both kids and adults and enjoys seeing how art connects everyone together and how everyone has an artist inside them. In addition to that Gurmehar does writing and vlogging and takes orders for commissions.
Phases | Marker

Phases. Phases of life. Phases of the seasons. Phases of emotions. Phases of relationships. Phases of light. Phases of dark. Phases of feeling empty. Phases of being fulfilled. Phases of stress. Phases of calmness. Phases of happiness. Phases of sadness. And, the high and low phases of these past few years of the pandemic. It is all just phases. They will come and they will go. All part of the human experience. All part of the journey of life.
Through her drawings, paintings, and mixed media pieces, Gurmehar wants to express the unexplored beauty of everyday phenomena. Through her creations, she wants to convey the perfect imperfections of mundane life.
“I want to spread hope, beauty, smiles, and love in the world.”
Her artistic inspiration comes from everyday life. The artist says everything and anything around her inspires her. From food to clothes, from nature to movies, from a conversation she had to her deep inner thoughts, from a happy moment to a bad experience.

The bonds, the relationships, the connections we have. Could be between friends. Could be between sisters. Could be romantic. They are all worth celebrating and cherishing. They are all so special and valuable.
There is a quiet voice inside me that wants to be loud. I want to be my authentic self but I am scared if I will be able to fit in with the crowd. I try to find the answer, and eventually, I get it: that I am simply me, precious, one of a kind. And I am okay with that, no matter what. I am going to be uniquely me.

Uniqueness | Collage

She is interested in creating works that represent the familiar world around us. By looking beyond, the obvious, Gurmehar reconstructs the everyday environment around us into something artistically unique, which allows the audience to discover beauty in unusual places.
“I perceive art as a medium to radiate bliss and peace of mind, and to bring life to the present moment.”
“I want people to look at my artworks and experience the same feeling that I have while creating them – freedom, satisfaction, and a journey of self-reflection.”
While creating, she often gets lost in what she calls “the zone,” where the external world around her disappears and she becomes one with her art. For her, art is the language she is most comfortable expressing. Whatever emotion she is feeling, whatever is going on in her life, however the day is going, through art, she can create her own story, her own little world. It is just her and her imagination.

It All Starts From The Heart | Mixed Media
$1,000
40 X 40
It all starts from the heart. Your words, your thoughts, your actions, your choices, your relationships, your journeys, everything. And my decision to turn art (my hobby, my passion, my love) into a career began from the heart. My obsession with patterns, and exploring different ways of combining lines, shapes, and colors is from the heart. Courage to share these pieces and stories with you all and build these beautiful meaningful connections emerged from the heart.
As both an artist and human, Gurmehar believes in the journey of growth. While she does like to stay in her comfort zone, she also likes to experiment with and learn about new mediums, techniques, and art styles. She is fascinated by colors, lines, and shapes and experimenting with the multiple ways to combine them together. She also enjoys combining these patterns with the objects, animals, and elements of nature that we interact with daily.

Dots And Arrows | Marker
$200
6 X 15
This is part of my Kintsugi collection. I decided to give it an arrow shape. Representing the fact that it is guiding me, showing me the way to the light, to a new and more beautiful direction. Life will never be perfect, there will be times that crush you, that you think you will not be able to move forward from. But you know what, one day it will click and you will be able to create your own Kintsugi from it, no matter whether its professional or personal.
The young artist says: “Art is its own language. It does not discriminate between race, gender, age, or skill set, it transcends beyond all that and connects humanity. Art can make us feel seen and heard. Maybe we all use different techniques to create, maybe we are from different cultures, maybe the artist's story is not our story, but the emotions are the same. The way colors make us smile and warm our hearts; the way we feel so interested when we attempt a new art style. The way the smallest things can inspire us. That is why I love art and feel proud to be a part of the creator community.”
I love to explore and experiment with various combinations of patterns and in this piece, decided to do Curls!

Sometimes you just need to let go, go with the flow. Just play and have fun. Embrace your inner child. Let your imagination guide you. And that is what I did while creating this piece.
Gurmehar says that she is a messenger who listens deeply to her inner voice and thoughts and delivers them through her unique artistic creations. She listens to the music the earth orchestrates through all life forms.
15 Cantt is my 100-year-old ancestral home in Amritsar, India. Passed down from the generations. It has a lot of memories, history and stories for me. It has a lot of typical Punjabi features like high ceilings and patterned floors, which was the inspiration for this work. Created this during the 2020 lockdown period when I was living here for 9 months (which usually at most I stay 2 months during the summer). I wanted to capture and preserve it. Part of my Lockdown Collection.

She dances in the dark and light. She sings the harmony of colors. She tastes the sweet-sour spirit of emotion. The artist sees, listens, feels, and imbibes it all inside her until it all pours out into a new creation. Then she speaks and shares her gift with the world.

Messenger of Happiness | Marker
$400

I mean, that's what dogs are right? Messengers of Happiness!
“I like to think that rather than me finding art, art has found me.”
