Christel Haag
GERMANY
_p.png)
“My work is joyful and expressive, dynamic and gestural, vibrant and colorful, strong with a positive energy.”
In 2002 Christel Haag made the decision to follow her heart and retrain as an artist. Once she made the decision to open the door to her creative urges, she felt that she had to go back to the beginning to discover who she really was. When Haag decided to move forward, she knew that she had to start by remaining open minded and willing to experiment with colours, shapes, textures etc.

We have almost reached our goal. There are only a few steps to do. So trust that you will also make the last steps towards your goal.
It was as if she granted herself the right to be free again, free without boundaries or pre-existing ideas of who she should be as an artist. The freedom that this gave Haag led to a truly energising period, where she approached everything with the natural enthusiasm of a child, everything was possible, and everything was there to be explored.

In these times there seems to be only bad news. Whether you hear them on TV or read the newspapers, environmental disasters, price increases, never-ending corona disease, war destruction and so on. We long to finally hear something good and beautiful again. That is the motivation for this painting: to bring beauty into the world to the people.
As she came across a new technique in another artist’s work, she wanted to see if it worked for her as a means of personal expression. Although this period could be viewed as a time of playful expression, it was also a time where Haag was subconsciously peeling away the layers and discovering who she truly was as an artist. All this combined to help her find a means of creative expression - a style, a method that is evidently hers.
“I started to play with various media, examined how different tools created varying effects on the canvas.”
She always tries to go to her creative limits while experimenting and giving her artworks her individual expression. Nature inspires her. Its beauty and harmony, its diversity and colourfulness fascinate her. The marvellous impressions she takes home from her travels, she frequently uses in their abstract form in her paintings.

Even if for some of us it seems impossible to achieve our dreams, while for others it seems so easy and doors open that remain closed to us. I still think it is important to hold on to your dreams and not give them up, when they come from deep within us.

Don´t Give Up On Your Dreams | Acrylic

She also works in her colourful, abstract and dynamic style to express the mood and feeling of a particular moment in time. It is first and foremost the joy of painting, of colors, of the creative process itself and of the energy of being that drives her artistic creation.
“My experience of love and life as a whole is to find expression in my paintings. They are all honest, authentic expressions of who I am as a person and an artist.”
“My paintings should be a carrier of hope and beauty, energy - energy of being. They are gestural, strong, and spontaneous.”
The evolution of her paintings does not follow a predetermined concept. Rather, her works gradually evolve in an intuitive and dynamic process. She often contrasts thick paint against thin. She might scratch deep into the paint or drag it across the canvas to create blurry rainbows of colour. The initial shapes, brush strokes and visual rhythm on the canvas are interwoven, overlap or come together in a new way and determine the direction the painting process must go until a harmonious, coherent painting emerges.

Everything Has Its Place | Acrylic
$1,800
32 X 32
When everything has its place in our lives, it can bring us security. Rituals are important - and they too can be full of new impulses.
Her ultimate aim is to create something unique, not merely depict what already exists in some shape or form. The effect of the paintings is brought about by giving herself over to the joy of the intuitive painting process led by free association and raw emotions. Each painting is a part of her. For her it is always exciting to start on a journey into a new painting not knowing where it will take her.

Heavy Burden | Acrylic
$2,400
39 X 32
Some of us have to carry a great burden others come through life very lightly. What is important is that we accept what we have to carry as a port of our lives.
She shares her soul with the world. This is why the creation of her works takes courage and a certain degree of trust. But when she succeeds in reaching and touching people with her art, and they experience, feel, the authentic energy and power of her paintings, it fills her with great joy and gratitude.
I do love the music of Bruce Springsteen. So I was listening to his new album "Letter To You" while I was painting. Especially "I'll See You in my Dreams" caught my attention. A couple of weeks ago a beloved friend had passed away and I was very sad about that. This song of "the Boss" reflected my mood so perfectly and indeed his lyrics comforted me. So this painting has got the title of the song - with a little modification.

Life can undoubtedly be like a rose, it smells wonderful and looks beautiful but let's not forget that it also has thorns.
Her inspiration comes from within, from experiences and the powerful feelings that arise as a result. These include life’s beautiful moments but also feelings such as fear, doubt, and loneliness. Her paintings are shaped by her own experiences and intuition. They radiate energy and joie de vivre.
Whenever we get into a situation in life where we want to give up, it is so important that the people we love stand by our side and support us.
