Anli Hou is a Chinese jewelry designer. Her artworks include not only jewelry but also objects, painting, cinematography, and cutlery. Anli tends to show the transient effect of lights, color, and texture, and explore the possibilities of them. It is her ardent appeal to people to have offline socializing through face-to-face interaction so as to build authenticity and mutual identification and break away from the imprisonment of social media.

For me candles are a source of security and warmth. I feel its light perfectly surrounds me, and I get a sense of belonging. I feel free here, I should be here, and this is my space. The candlelight will create dazzling effects, and produce vivid color. The visual and atmospheric effects will function to elevate and soothe the emotional state of those who experience it.
She likes to combine comprehensive materials with metals to explore the different variances of both. She chooses bright and vivid colors and materials and tries to show the reflection effect of the lights on the jewelry’s surface. The inspiration for the shape often comes from her emotions when she is in a trance state.

In China, Anli has completed a four-year course in jewelry design and metal working in the University. She continued to study at the Royal College of Art in 2020, and has created five new collections of works: ‘Trance’, ‘The sea-double Tenderness’, 'Don’t Miss the Sunset', ‘Miss Grandma in December,’ and ‘If you live in the Light, you feel the whole world is bright.’

In Anli’s MA study, her works mainly focused on social hot topics and her own stories, integrating her own thinking and attitude into her works. She pays more attention to the inspiration and significance that jewelry can bring to the wearer and audience.

"Thanks to the popularity and growth of social media, people are fed with infidel online images among themselves, i.e., people register authentic profiles and go online, but are inclined to deviate from their true selves during the process of revealing themselves."
By means of visible artistic language, personal information is conveyed among people to find shared interests and topics, so they proactively make conscious and meaningful interactions. As a result, Anli created the ‘TRANCE’ series.

According to Laura Migliorino, art is essential because it becomes the lasting legacy of any society. It's really important for everybody to get out there and write our history, and not let somebody else write it. So as an artist, Anli has this gift and a responsibility to make the work that speaks about her struggle, her failures, and her achievements, and to be honest and blunt in telling this story.

Anli Hou is a storyteller and she has a particular skill set of creating visual art. So she wrote five short stories about herself. It is also an important part of her ‘history’. She hopes to create her own ‘offline visual ID’ of her stories through different patterns on the surface of her works to help the audience find and talk about her stories on social occasions.

Through her work, she aims to contribute to the ongoing dialogue of art and make a meaningful contribution to the world. She sees herself as a part of this tradition, using her talent and platform to make a positive difference in the world. She shares her joy for creating artworks that reflect her experiences and emotions, infusing each piece with a part of herself.

In 2021, Anli Hou was the winner of The Contemporary Cutlers Design Competition, and her works were permanently collected by the Cutlers company. Her work ‘Hole’ was awarded the second prize in the Design Contest 2018 in France. In 2023, Anli participated in the Parallax Art Fair exhibition in London and her work won the Talent Prize award from TERAVARNA Art Gallery in the same year. Now Anli’s works have been invited to participate in the Milano Jewelry Week 2023.

The sunset glow is more poetic, giving people a romantic atmosphere. The tranquility at the moment is like that I integrate with the sunset glow. When a night falls, I will blend in with the darkness. The light wind quietly makes my heart go with the wind. I like the sunset glow, and I also like the ending of every day in this way. It gorgeous and vivid colors send away the busy and troubles of the day and tell people that the day has passed and a new day will begin.
