Allison McCrady

USA

Yellow and Black Photography Quote (1).p

“The underlying motive and inspiration for the contemporary approach is the organic, natural beauty and interest of the atmosphere.”

As a young child, Allison was inspired by natural beauty. She tells the story of standing under a huge old maple tree on a cold winter morning. The early sun was rising and suddenly illuminated the nearly 100 icicles that dripped from the branches of the aged tree. The light hit them all and she was awestruck by the beauty. Allison was 3 years old when she experienced this first visual inspiration.

During the pandemicc so many people dreamed and acted on those dreams to find their safe shelter out in the country. The home became so important for so many. It offers safe shelter and love. This is a beautiful thing!

In 2002, McCrady traveled with her family to Tuscany. She packed her tubes of oils, bushes and canvases. While her family members went wine tasting and shopping, McCrady set herself up on the Indian red gravel paths of Tuscany and painted away! She chose the vineyards, huge gorgeous fields of sunflowers red poppies. She was in awe of the horses and studied their physiques.

“My work has movement and spontaneity. People generally fall in love with this refreshing detour from the traditional approach.”

Allison actually left several pieces of clothing in her room in Tuscany in order to property pack the paintings in her oversized suitcase. This collection of Tuscan paintings illuminated the autumn hues if the region. There are vivid yet harmonious. Her collectors quickly visited Allison's Studio upon her return to the Bay Area. Word spread that the emerging artists had a technique and approach to the landscape which stood apart from her creative peers. She had developed a unique palette that was warm, rich and harmonious. She applied paint with no refrain thus creating a textural painting which practically 3 d at times. Her canvasses were large, unlike the traditional plein air painter.

“I often paint in my favorite place, the coast. My approach to the coastline is unique for a landscape artist.”

“My enthusiasm for painting captured me every single day and I painted 13 paintings while I was in Tuscany on a family vacation.”

The requests rolled in and McCrady could not keep up with the demand. She traveled from Napa to New Zealand, painting commissioned pieces. Many of the pieces are mural size. As the years went on, she mastered several themes. Landmark, Mountains and natural monuments were in demand.

Mapping out the Blues | Oil

$1,800

Patter, texture and design are the common theme is so many of my abstracts. This piece has many shades of blue in an arrangment of shapes that create a global like view. I love maps and world travel. This piece is inspired by those passions

She focused on capturing the energy and wildness of the sea. Many pieces captured sprays of ocean foam crashing off the deeply colored enormous rocks. The viewers could actually hear and smell the crashing waves. The paintings emanate feel as well as a visual depiction.

Aqualife | Oil

$3,500

60 X 48

This piece is all about the colors of the carribien. You can look at this and imagine being underwater. Better yet, think of it as a tropical aquarium that hangs on your wll.

In 2016, Allison pivoted to abstracted works. She tweaked her jewel toned palette to include the vivid hues of cadmium red and yellow. She fell in love with cerene cerulean blue. Her trained eye placed yellow ochre next to crimson Elysium blended with titanium white, the result bounced. The paintings grew even larger up 25 feet long.

Vivid patched of colors illuminate the scenes of Southern France. The color is naturally rich, this painting pushes the hues to another level. There is energy and bounce in this piece.

This abstraction of a park scene conitnues to stay real and recognizable. Linear with some loose areas create an amazing visual experience

April 2022, the artist spent April in Arles painting every single day of her one month stay. She made a drastic change in her approach; after 25 years of painting exclusively in oils, she experimented with watercolors. She traveled to Paris in order to purchase the top-quality paper with gorgeous textures and rough torn edges.

Color, color, color combinations....that is the approach that speaks to an idea of the tightrope walk. The sprays hint and sway and swings in the acts of the circus.

Trapeze Art Part II | Oil

She could be seen sitting in the many cafes of Southern France, painting sidewalk scenes in Arles and the neighboring towns. She articulated the amazing light of the region by applying the most vivid hues of provence. Purples, yellows, blues abound in the many paintings created while residing in Southern France.
