Abibat Adedayo

UK

Yellow and Black Photography Quote (1).p

“Painting is my way of breathing peace into color.”

Abibat Bonuola Adedayo is a Nigerian artist born in Lagos and currently based in Birmingham, United Kingdom. A self-taught painter, she has developed a body of work that explores the beauty, serenity, and emotional depth of landscapes. Through her expressive use of color and light, she creates immersive environments that invite viewers to pause, breathe, and reflect. Her art is a meditation on stillness and transformation, offering a sanctuary of calm within the often chaotic rhythm of modern life.

Sunset Drive II | Acrylic

$1,000

Sunset Drive is about that familiar, peaceful feeling of driving as the sun sets. The winding road pulls you in, almost like it’s leading somewhere beyond the horizon. It’s a painting about movement and stillness at the same time, capturing the beauty of a fleeting moment. It’s that quiet reminder to slow down, take a breath, and just enjoy the view.

From childhood, Adedayo felt a strong pull toward creative expression. Although she studied agriculture, she believes this background deepened her sensitivity to nature and its subtle rhythms. Her fascination with organic growth and the cycles of life naturally translated into her artistic language. Early influences such as the dreamlike worlds of Studio Ghibli films nurtured her love for landscapes filled with tranquility and imagination. The serenity and emotional honesty of those visual narratives continue to shape her practice, inspiring her to transform fleeting moments of light into lasting impressions on canvas.

Sunset Safari I | Acrylic

$300

Sunset Safari I captures the warmth and tranquility of a tropical sunset, immersing the viewer in a landscape where the sky glows in deep oranges, fiery reds, and soft golden hues.

For Adedayo, painting landscapes is an intimate process of reflection and renewal. When the world feels overwhelming, art becomes her refuge, a space to reconnect with clarity and peace. Each composition she creates serves as both a personal meditation and a shared invitation to stillness. Nature, for her, represents a spiritual sanctuary where emotion, memory, and awareness converge. She paints not to depict what she sees, but to express what she feels in those quiet, contemplative moments when the landscape becomes a mirror of the soul.

“Light becomes emotion, guiding every landscape I create.”

Her artistic practice has evolved steadily through experimentation and exploration. Beginning with watercolors, she later turned to acrylic, gouache, and eventually oil painting, embracing the distinct emotional and visual qualities of each medium. This evolution reflects her belief that artistic mastery arises from curiosity and courage rather than repetition. Each material brings new challenges and possibilities, shaping her ongoing dialogue with texture, light, and atmosphere. Adedayo approaches her work as a journey without boundaries, continually expanding her vocabulary of form and feeling.

Dreamland | Acrylic

$250

Light is the central language of Adedayo’s art. She views it as an emotional force capable of expressing impermanence, resilience, and transformation. The interplay of illumination and shadow, sunrise and dusk, movement and stillness, all serve as metaphors for the inner tides of human experience. Her landscapes capture more than geography; they trace the invisible transitions of the heart and mind. Through nuanced layers of color and tone, she constructs scenes that evoke both the tangible world and the quiet world within.

“My art reflects the quiet language of light and landscape, transforming fleeting moments of nature into spaces of reflection, healing, and emotional connection.”

“When I paint, I am not trying to capture a scene; I am trying to capture a feeling. Nature has always been my sanctuary, a place where time slows and the world becomes still. The process of painting allows me to return to that stillness, to translate it into color and texture so others can feel it too. Each landscape I create begins as an emotion before it becomes an image. I often find inspiration during walks at sunset, when the sky changes from gold to violet, reminding me how fleeting yet beautiful every moment can be. Painting, for me, is an act of peace — a way to breathe through chaos and find meaning in silence. I want my art to give viewers permission to pause, to breathe, and to reconnect with themselves and the natural world. If someone stands before one of my paintings and feels a sense of calm or remembrance, then the work has fulfilled its purpose.”

Her influences are as diverse as they are meaningful. Adedayo draws inspiration from Claude Monet’s atmospheric sensitivity and Vincent van Gogh’s expressive vitality, combining these with the emotional storytelling of Hayao Miyazaki’s animated worlds. Yet her greatest muse remains nature itself, with its endless capacity for renewal and transformation. The shifting hues of the sky, the softness of light across fields, and the silence of twilight all inform her creative process. In her hands, the familiar becomes dreamlike, and the dreamlike becomes intimate and real.

Fields of solitude | Acrylic

$200

Fields of Solitude evokes a quiet, peaceful sense of isolation and introspection. It’s a place where time slows down, allowing for personal connection with nature and the peaceful solitude that comes with it.

Her ongoing project, The Traveler’s Path to Serenity, embodies her artistic philosophy. Each painting in this series merges observation with imagination, combining real landscapes with dreamlike memory. Winding roads, luminous skies, and distant horizons serve as metaphors for the human journey — a path of discovery, loss, and return. These works encourage viewers to step into imagined spaces that feel both personal and universal. Through them, Adedayo continues to refine her vision of landscape as a vessel for introspection and healing.

Her landscapes have received recognition in international publications such as Artistic Hub Magazine in Switzerland and earned her awards for excellence in contemporary painting. She has also participated in an open residency in Leicester, where collaboration with other artists further expanded her creative horizons. Through virtual exhibitions, she has shared her work with audiences around the world, allowing her vision of peace and reflection to reach beyond physical borders.

This piece symbolizes crossing into new phases of life, stepping into the unfamiliar with faith and courage. It challenges viewers to think about the thresholds they have crossed moments when they have stepped into a new version of themselves.

Echoes of Motherland | Acrylic

$275

This reimagines a Nigerian landscape, using the silhouette of the country itself as a canvas for a fiery sunset. This piece represents cultural identity, heritage, and belonging themes that are integral to my journey as a Nigerian. The landscape within the shape of Nigeria speaks to the connection between personal roots and the ever-expanding horizons we seek. It invites contemplation on where we come from and how that history shapes our journeys forward.

Known for her radiant depictions of sunsets and atmospheric skies, Adedayo often captures fleeting scenes through photography before translating them into oil on canvas. She approaches this process as an act of memory and transformation, turning transient light into lasting emotion. For her, being an artist means freedom — the ability to express without limitation and to evolve without fear. Painting is both meditation and motion, a practice that grounds her in gratitude while allowing her to continually explore new ways of seeing.

Origins I captures the essence of beginnings, painting the map of Africa under a blue moonlit sky. The cool, glowing blues create a serene, almost otherworldly feel. This map isn’t just a geographic representation, it’s a visual celebration of origins, where the land itself becomes a symbol of the beginnings of life, culture, and history, illuminated under the vast, infinite sky.

Origins I | Acrylic

Looking ahead, Adedayo seeks to deepen her exploration of light, color, and emotion. She is particularly interested in how variations in tone and atmosphere can alter perception and evoke connection. Her goal is to create art that functions not only as visual beauty but as a therapeutic and meditative experience. Through her landscapes, she invites viewers to rediscover the peace found in nature and within themselves. For Abibat Adedayo, painting is not simply an act of creation but a lifelong dialogue with serenity — a path toward harmony, reflection, and renewal.
