It depicted a critical moment in my life in an artistic way. It was a spine surgery that changed my entire trajectory, which I had no clue about at the time. Everyone has that moment that will change them forever, whether for the better or the worse; sometimes, you might not notice it. So, you better write them down or draw them down.
Yuanhao Tang has a discerning vision and is known for his distinctive style, marked by flowing lines and vibrant colors, seamlessly blending personal observation with social reflection. That helps him make his work resonate deeply with a diverse milieu of viewers. After the surgery, I had a moment to let down my discipline and pressure and look back on what I had learned from my past and what I had gained from it as well. Most people would see something like illness as trouble. It’s true, but what came after to me was quite a surprise.
Through his imaginative lens, Yuanhao translates bustling streets, serene landscapes, and intimate human connections into visual narratives that celebrate the extraordinary within the ordinary. That makes his art remarkable. His artworks are not merely aesthetic compositions but also powerful reflections on the joys of community, the challenges of urban living, and the transformative beauty of cultural exchange.

This piece was inspired by an old tradition I saw when I returned to my grandmother's hometown. Elders would put objects from different careers, such as teachers, workers, artists, etc., in a circle. They would put a chopstick in the center and spin it to see which object it pointed at, which gave them an indication of what their children would become in the future. From today's perspective, this tradition looks like superstition, but I love to see mystery traditions and memorize them.
The concept of this piece came up during the COVID-19 global pandemic, which hit all of us hard. I was shocked by the stories I heard about things I had seen then. I was forming the composition of this piece while fences were building up around people's quarantine places when big companies harvested and got fed on people's lives and deaths. From my perspective, I want to use my illustration to memorize that period, which was a time of madness and chaos. And it was unrealistic, like a dream.

When artificial intelligence was first discovered and used, it was a crucial strike against artists, and I believe it still is today. Although I think the evolution and use of AI in society are inevitable, I also discovered that humans are a small part of this universe. We are like tiny boats floating on a massive ocean, and AI is another gigantic island that appears in our way. We could bump into it or find a genuine opportunity.
Being a Chinese born after the 90’s decades, the popularity of martial arts novels and black and white comic strips became Yuanhao's early enlightenment to art. The culturally thriving atmosphere at home helped Yuanhao to surround himself with piles of comic books and martial arts novels while growing up. The plots in the novels had inspired him ever since, and that’s how he started painting his dreams on canvases.

Currently based in Atlanta, USA, Yuanhao is a professional freelance illustrator who continues to pursue his childhood dream. As a child from Asia, Yuanhao also strives to portray his works as cultural representations of the East and continuously speak out for Asian culture and his own community. That’s how he keeps his roots alive.
Do not feel vulnerable because you are alone; on the contrary, human beings are most likely to produce dazzling sparks of thinking when they taste loneliness, so when you have to be lonely sometimes, please do not hurry to grieve and sigh.

The night is like the sun, giving life. Because of the layer of mist, all colors look mysterious and desirable. Have you ever wondered what kind of world lies behind the high bars of a garden in the dead of night?
With age Yuanhao gradually realizes how important it is to express his opinions clearly. While parents around him were urging their children to study hard to enter a prestigious university, Yuanhao was encouraged to pursue his dream of becoming an artist. That unique experience also became an important turning point in his life and a source of inspiration.
I heard about so many deaths during the epidemic, but only witnessing the great sadness of my friends who lost loved ones around me completely shocked me. No picture is enough to express the pain; I only hope my friend will always be healthy and happy.
