These techniques create detailed and expressive sketches that bring her subjects to life. Her creative process involves a careful observation of the world and a deep appreciation for the details that often go unnoticed. She strives to capture the essence of my subjects in a way that is both truthful and engaging.
“My daughter is studying traditional drawing which has been a great inspiration to me.”
Her daughter’s encouragement, combined with her natural advantages of creativity and a strong sense of imagination, has led her to focus on pencil sketching. Depending on the size and complexity of the still-life items, it can take her up to six months to complete a single piece of artwork.

The common theme that is in all of Wenjin’s artworks is represented by her residence in Singapore. It is a place where all people with different cultures stand in solidarity and are unified through their experiences. She hopes to achieve the same result and show her message with her artworks; bringing unique cultures together and placing iconic still-life objects side by side in harmony.
“It is important to continue passing on these traditions from one generation to the next and preserve the precious values of our ancestors.”
“Each work of mine is composed of lines of varying lengths, thickness, shade, and direction, and the darkest parts may require over one hundred layers of pencil strokes.”
She wants to communicate that traditional culture can evoke the awe and appreciation that humans have towards traditional beauty. Wenjin believes that through art, people can rediscover the stunning world that God has created, and cultivate a humble attitude and reverence towards the natural world.

Wenjin’s Artwork focuses on the concept of ‘beauty of form’ which derives from her teacher, the famous artist Ren Jianhui whose professor is master Wu Guanzhong. Wu Guanzhong is inspired by a fusion of Eastern and Western painting techniques, using media like ink wash and oil painting.

Life | Pencil

The artwork “Life” depicts the life cycle of all living beings in the world. It is the process of introduction, growth, maturity and decline shown through the status of natural material such as the fresh and ripe fruits and dried leaves produced in the corresponding four seasons.
Wenjin has captured and learned the essence of his teachings and strives to transform them with pencil strokes into sketches containing her own stories threaded throughout. She began experimenting with the methods taught to her. Starting with simple straight lines, she practiced and improved her skills.

“Mundane blurred shades slowly become clearer with a strong sense of depth and perspective in my art.”

Dimensions | Pencil
$12,000
22 X 32
The essence behind the artwork “Dimensions” is similar to its creating process. This message is expressed through the glass bottle with paint brushes inside. I combined different angles of the same object to piece together an original and new perspective as if it was seen from another dimension. I believe this should be the same approach as how we look at life. It is beneficial to jump out of the strict confinements and see from an aerial view, with an open mind, and discover the deeper meaning.
Then she moved on to more complex exercises, for example, sketching a wide variety of 3D shapes. Wenjin understood the principle of how light is shone on an object impacted the tones and she observed carefully how the shadows are casted or bounced off from one object to another.
