Monika Hanselmann

GERMANY

Yellow and Black Photography Quote (1).p

“It was the artistry of Franz Nagel, his student Ruth Prym-Kohler, and the coruscating sculpting of Helmut Ammann that drew me to the profundity of pursuing painting and graphics.”

Digging into the shadows, Monika Hanselmann’s childhood revolved around living in Zittau, Reichenau/Oberlausitz, and Oybin. The family fled westward to Grefrath near Venlo, after her father’s company was expropriated by the GDR state. Soon, her father’s death aftermath exacerbated the financial stability and security of her family.

Lebensmelodie- Melody of life | Resin

71 X 63

The ancient philosophers believed that all life in the world was based on four elements: fire, water, earth, air. This seems to be implied in Kochana's picture. At the bottom right I recognize the rich fruits of the earth - overflowing, overflowing; What the earth produces is presented in a basket. At the top right I see the being of life as if surrounded by an ocean of water. To the left is a balloon rising into the air of the ether. But the actual melody of my life stretches across the entiret

Kissing goodbye to high school, she began to train for a social profession. At 19, Hanselmann qualified for the state examination as a sister at the German Red Cross. Initially, her career took off as a clinical nurse, soon entered academia in medical research and bacteriology. Upon tying a nuptial bond with theologian Siegfried Hanselmann in 1966, she bigoted two kids. The family resided in Schönwald/Ofr from 1967 to 1973.

I would like to look deeper in order to recognize the essence of things. The egg cell is capable of receiving life, sustaining life, passing on life.

She started working as a freelance reporter until there was a shift in her interest in the art. Being influenced by Nagel, Kohler, and Ammann, she set her sights on Rothenburg ob der Tauber. From 1980 to 1990, she designed for Wildbad Rothenburg o.d.T. conference center expansion, on behalf of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bavaria with her husband and architect Georg Küttinger.

“My artworks captured the uncontrived mystery and essence evoked in the study trip experiences to the North East, that I undertook for the adult groups.”

She pursued practical theology at the University of Neuendettelsau, Augustana with Richard Riess, besides philosophy and rhetoric with Peter Oesterreich. Hanselmann started working at the Wildbad Conference Centre as a speaker, extended to both art and the church in 1983, and so on. Furthermore, she has devised large-format pictures in her style.

Fermate - Stops | Resin

The full fruits herald the ripening of my life; The large fermata can be seen above him.

The dream of paradise, of a world without evil, without oppression, without fear lies within humans. Man desires a life of harmony, love, equality and brotherhood. Because life is always beautiful when you have human warmth around you.

An epitome of her thoughts can be delineated through her works named ‘Outcry’ which was created during the Time of the Gulf War, followed by ‘Threatened Creation, Dealing with Nature, Climate Change, Building of the Tower of Babel, Mass Tourism and Exaggerated Belief in Growth’. Around 1989, in Berlin, at the German Evangelical Church Congress, her large-format pictures (160 × 180 cm) were exhibited. In 1992, the artist’s creativity spun through her ‘word-image music project’, at the church service. While her art explored the growth and transmogrified into traveling exhibitions, under the name “Kochana’ exhibiting in three locations in the Tegernsee Valley worked like a charm.

“My works inculcate a narrative character. Adding to the artistic credo sounds, the oil-based pictures and those in the mixed medium are aimed at being more complex, comprehensive, and daunting.”

“My artworks mirror life experiences: fear of war, injustice in the world, tension between rich and poor, violation of creation, and climate change.”

The timeline of success in art kickstarts with Hanselmann receiving an invitation to the Madang of the 10th General Assembly of the World Council of Churches in Busan, South Korea in 2013. Following, exhibitions in Protestant academies in 2015, the submission of stained glass window designs to Applications for Art in 2020, opening of the artists’ house ‘The Künstlerhaus Kochana - Monika Hanselmann in Rothenburg ob der Tauber’ in 2022.

I'm looking everywhere after the lost paradise. From childhood I'm already looking
after him and well also in old age.

With roughly contoured to filigree flowing figures, and sometimes to color-explosive compositions, Hanselmann succeeds in creating pictorial spaces that capture the expressionistic sense. It similarly meets the needs of many viewers for recognizable motifs. An interesting takeaway here includes her updation of Christian ideas and fabricating visual comments on world events (war, Euro, globalization), a biblical anchoring weight, in Harry Düll 2004.

Unterwegs - On the way | Acrylic

You have left your mark along the way. Continue on your own path, step by step.

She continues her artistic saga by exhibiting at the General Assembly of the Universal Church in Busan. The coruscation of the winter sun in the studio, and the starry sky on resting on the easel is the milestone of artistry. Following, she exhibited her art at the 10th General Assembly of the World Council of Churches in the megacity in South Korea. Around 300 delegates from 345 member churches were represented as well as numerous guests from South Korea, among which four artists belonging to India, Korea, Japan, and Rothenburg. were a part.

Stand firmly on the ground - the earthen colors suggest this - and look to the future with optimism - even if the ground is shaking. Confidence arises when you can make yourself understood in a good diplomatic way.

Zuversicht - Confidence | Acrylic

“One of the strengths of my art lies in the never-strenuous balancing act between objectivity and painterly abstract emotional sounds.”

Vita activa - Active life | Resin

The picture is reminiscent of a stay in Rome. It expresses the hustle and bustle of the big city, but also of our own lives. The green there is pushed back to a few small districts. Life means agitation. Not only two feet seem to support people. But then I see one big eye: “One person watches and alone bears our toil and pain.” God's eye stands above everything as a warning. It reminds me of what's important first.

Her artsy creations were exhibited in Germany, all parts. She filled in the blank space with ideas brimming from an internet search for the options. Her large-format painting entitled “Visions between Heaven and Earth”, exhibited in Busan was displayed in Busan, soon making its way to churches. With the unwavering aid from her husband, Kochana developed a video installation that not only shows her paintings but also verbally the underlying message behind them, Silvia Schäfer 2014.

Excerpts from a globe map cover the background: stretches of land, an island, and the blue of the sky is also present. The image aims to represent the global connections between economy and transport, trade and human change. Not everyone can handle the onslaught of time. Some figures give the impression of being helpless, like children. One or the other even falls off the wheel of history.

Gathering insights on “Lebensmelodie”, a publication by Monika Hanselmann the frozen slumber of the world painted with aggression can be seen. She further eulogizes how upon looking closely the creations can be deemed wonderful, however, if perceived with an orientation.

Powerfrau - Power woman | Stained Glass

69 X 68

Sparkling red interspersed with yellow, white and black feathers. Dancing shoes and a laughing mouth, seeing eyes and a thinking head in which wisdom is hidden. The power woman talks about her love of life. As the daughter of a woman in ruins, she let life get to her and took advantage of her opportunities.

“I shouldn’t be a spectator in the world events, I should use my talents to turn the wheel of the world and take part in those events.”
