Kenan K.
TURKEY

“When I began to paint as a hobby in my fifties, it was as if the soul of a twelve-year-old child had stepped out of its shelter and into a different dimension. We decided to walk the path of art together, hand in hand, if possible.”
When Kenan K. started attending weekend courses at Hızır Teppeev's studio, one of the first things he learned, apart from basic painting techniques, was to respect the brush. Later, this approach turned into an understanding of respect for everyone and everything, animate and inanimate; life, nature, and art in particular — this understanding, along with love, formed one of his paradigms of life.
Infinity within Nihility | Mixed Media

Infinity within Nihility was made for "the Mythological story of Orukk", and as such it is quite appropriate for the beginning. However, it has nothing to do with the current understanding of nihilism. The figure eight in the work represents infinity as we know it, and the blackness in the background represents nothingness. Although, perhaps paradoxically, life is not infinite, the gemstone in the centre is in a sense a reference to the value and meaning of existence despite nothingness...
After a relatively long time (about ten or twelve years later) he began to feel that artworks might have a role to play in carrying/transmitting as much of their charged energy as possible through reflection. This variable, not measurable, but perceptible or appreciable energy, is not limited to these, but will mostly depend on the mood of the artist, the means and ends, and the internal dynamics of the production process of the works.

“Jung described the animus as the unconscious masculine side of a woman, and the anima as the unconscious feminine side of a man.”, (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anima_and_animus) Using shapes and forms that can be thought of as your left anima and your right animus, an attempt is made to visualise this understanding...
He also wonders whether the transmission/carrying of this variable energy can enable the sharing of a positive effect, such as the birth of a newborn child, the birth of a baby animal, or the germination of a seed, or whether it can lead to other positive expansions. The main purpose or reason for all these studies and efforts comes from the desire to make a more or less positive contribution to life and all living things, based on ‘constructive freedom.’
“I realized that art offered me the opportunity to touch the lives of people I have never met or who did not know me at all, if they so wished. This was a deep, special, and motivating feeling for me.”
If you look at art within the framework of this concept, your subject can be whatever it is. There can be more than one subject within the same painting, or some changes in perception can occur depending on the viewer's imagination and frequency of interaction with the work, or the work can remain completely abstract, depending entirely on the viewer's perspective.

Thinking is a serious and cost-efficient action, and it is not easy to understand why some people might not think a little before they act. With respect and gratitude to all thinkers who have been the source of important changes in the history of Humanity with their thoughts...
The timing of this study coincides with, but is not limited to, the Covid 19 outbreak period. It is dedicated to people who are sometimes affected by the stifling conditions of our time...

Kenan even draws a parallel between whether you consciously focus your attention on the swamp or the lotus flower in the swamp. It can be seen as a kind of experiment, sometimes painful, but mostly and generally joyful. This approach is not repetitive and can generally be described as ‘experimentation within intuition’ or ‘quantum experimentation within art.’
“Pouring my soul into the work, mastery of techniques, craftsmanship, familiarity with materials and their interactions, and the ability to use the appropriate tools where needed are essential and indispensable requirements for me.”
“I believe there is neither a limit nor a certain fixed path when it comes to the production/creation process. Sometimes the path to be taken may even be one that has never been taken before. When it comes to constructive freedom, I argue that the determining factor will be ‘how I go, not where.’”
In practice, he believes that by meeting the technical requirements, standards, and conditions with the necessary technical skills, with unlimited and unconditional acceptance where necessary, it can be relatively easier to flow with tools and materials in the realization of these thoughts and ideas.

Mom's Laces | Mixed Media

This can be seen not as a transfer of a mother's lacework to a painting, but as a symbolic expression of the precious energy passed from her to her children...
Your thoughts, your mood, your feelings, your soul and perhaps even your karma can be poured into the work with an inevitable end. All of this is interlinked in a multi-layered and flexible way in terms of the processes you prefer to follow. - By the way, it is well known that the work itself educates!

Every sunrise can be seen as a fresh start where the world is rebuilt. This work is like a tribute to this beginning...
To be more specific about the act, the artist has mentioned three phases in general. The first is ‘Articulation.’ It means that until the time comes, he articulates ideas, information, materials (that attract attention), and even energy; without knowing exactly how to use them. He then moves on to their ‘Arrangement,’ which is the second step. Before starting to work, he arranges the articulated materials that attract attention.
Increasing awareness and awakenings are important for raising the collective consciousness to make the world a better place to live in. At least as a hope, and regardless of where and how there seems to be an increase in awakening births.

“If you ask me, finishing/completing the work is perhaps as important as the process of creation, if not more so. Even an overly tiny point can have a much greater effect on the whole work than one can imagine.”

Feeling like Birds | Oil

Freedom is one of the most important requirements for all living things, and birds can be seen as one of the best symbols of this. Whether external conditions allow it or not, inner freedom is a feeling that can always be preserved, and this work is a modest attempt to do so through colours with the silhouettes of birds in the background.
The final step in the creation process is ‘Starting to Work.’ This is the part where the artist goes with the flow. Not always, he admits, but from time to time inner communication helps him where and when he needs it. And of course, the necessary technical steps should be taken in time. For example, stopping, stepping back, and checking as often as possible for color interactions, entry points, walkability, ease of movement, balance, etc.
This painting was born from the emotions of a ten-day deep friendship with a baby crow during the departure to nature. And the reason why it is named "Mavis" is the blue of its eyes...

Kenan K. always says that every work has its way and there is no ready-made recipe or fixed order for all. Since works of art have their ways of coming to fruition, they become separate and independent entities when they are completed and/or finished. So it may be desirable to allow them to express themselves. The more you get into them, the more they will communicate.

... while Leaving the Body |Oil

One of the most difficult areas of knowledge is the unknowability of the unknown. The abandonment of the body can be seen as one of these areas. However, the fact that it is unknown does not prevent imaginative studies on the subject, and in this sense, it may be appropriate to see it as a humble attempt...
“Finally, I always tell everyone to please let works of art speak in silence and be ready to explore their adventurous music.”
