“I gather silence and let it bloom through quiet marks.”
Jane Beisell is a mixed media artist from the Pacific Northwest whose creative practice is deeply grounded in her connection to the natural world. Inspired by the quiet strength and fleeting beauty of the landscape around her, she views art as both a meditative ritual and a celebration of nature’s resilience. Her work reflects an ongoing dialogue with the wilderness—particularly wildflowers, forest flora, and organic textures that quietly mark the passage of time.
Clownfish In Coral Garden | Mixed Media
$2,800
12 X 24
"Clownfish in Coral Garden" -- inspired by my husband's underwater photography from a dive trip to Indonesia -- captures the vibrant life of a coral reef. Mixed media layers of watercolor, and dried lichen bring depth and movement to this playful underwater scene. Clownfish swim through textured sea anemones, celebrating the beauty—and fragility—of marine ecosystems.
From childhood, Jane was captivated by the small, often overlooked wonders in nature. Tiny blooms, fallen leaves, the softness of moss, and the play of light through trees became the foundation of her visual language. These early observations continue to shape her work today, guiding both her material choices and her creative process. She begins each piece with traditional media—such as watercolor, acrylic, or ink—and gradually layers in real botanical elements, including dried petals, ferns, and stems, crafting compositions that blur the line between painting and collage.
Echoes of Her | Mixed Media
$4,000
24 X 36
"Echoes of Her" is a tribute to the layered essence of feminine identity across time. With her face partially concealed, she becomes both presence and memory—surrounded by botanical impressions, real botanicals, butterflies, and fragments of asemic text wrapping the edges. These visual echoes speak to transformation, resilience, and the unseen stories carried forward. This mixed media piece invites viewers to reflect on the beauty, mystery, and strength woven through generations of women.
Her integration of preserved flora is both intentional and intuitive, resulting in work that carries a sense of quiet spontaneity. By combining texture, translucency, and vibrant or muted color palettes, Jane invites the outside world into the frame—literally embedding pieces of nature into the heart of each composition. This merging of materials allows her to create tactile, emotionally resonant pieces that feel alive and deeply personal.
“My hands remember what the world forgets too quickly. ”
Jane’s foundation in art began with the disciplined study of East Asian brush painting and calligraphy. This early training taught her the value of restraint, focus, and the expressive power of a single line. The precision and rhythm learned through calligraphy continue to influence her mixed media work today, evident in her detailed mark-making and thoughtful use of space. As her practice evolved, she began exploring watercolor and acrylics, allowing for more fluidity and experimentation while maintaining a commitment to craftsmanship.

Frida Kahlo Foral | Mixed Media
$1,000
12 X 12
In 2019 we visited Mexico City during Día de los Muertos and toured Frida's home, Casa Azul. We purchased a Frida ‘sugar skull’ painting in the park nearby and that now hangs in our sunroom as a keepsake from the trip. When my art evolved to include pressed flowers, I had an ‘aha moment’ recalling Frida’s iconic floral headbands. Creating the 3D floral design in “Frida Kahlo Floral” was a challenge—but the result captures her vibrant spirit!
“Petal Pass” is a vibrant mixed media landscape that captures the joyful abundance of wildflower-covered hills inspired by the views nearby our home. Painted with acrylics and layered with real pressed flowers and natural fibers, the piece invites viewers to follow a winding path through colorful meadows beneath a bright blue sky. Blending texture, color, and organic elements, this work celebrates nature’s diversity and the beauty found in each fleeting bloom.

At the center of her artistic philosophy is the idea of transience. Plants bloom, wither, and return again—a cycle that mirrors the impermanence and renewal found in all aspects of life. By embedding dried botanicals into her work, Jane captures fleeting moments and preserves them, transforming ephemerality into something lasting. Her pieces act as visual time capsules, encouraging viewers to slow down and find meaning in what is often missed in everyday life.
“I do not paint for perfection. I paint to remember. Each brushstroke holds something fragile, something once living, something that deserves to be seen.”
"My process begins in stillness. I go outside and collect what others pass by without noticing. A fallen stem, a faded bloom, a curled leaf. These are not just materials. They are moments that once lived. I press them, layer them, and listen to what they offer back. I choose paper because it breathes. It responds. It feels honest. I am not trying to recreate nature. I am trying to hold a moment long enough to learn from it. My studio feels like a garden that remembers everything. When I work, I am not trying to speak loudly. I am simply trying to speak clearly and with care."
Though Jane’s artistic journey began with formal training, much of her growth has been driven by curiosity and self-guided exploration. She regularly draws inspiration from online platforms like YouTube and TikTok, where she experiments with new techniques, learns from fellow artists, and embraces a spirit of continual learning. This blend of traditional discipline and modern adaptability has become a hallmark of her approach to art.

The Tamaracks’ Quail | Mixed Media
$750
14 X 14
Inspired by a male California quail spotted on our back porch in summer 2023, “The Tamaracks' Quail” captures a proud father standing watch as his mate and chicks foraged below. His protective posture and alert gaze reflect the quiet strength and beauty of this backyard moment.
The physical process of making art is equally important to Jane as the final outcome. She delights in gathering materials from nature, pressing wildflowers, and exploring how organic textures interact with paint and paper. Her home studio often resembles both a painter’s workspace and a naturalist’s archive, filled with pressed plants, handmade paper, and test pieces layered with brushstrokes and botanical detail. Every choice she makes—from paper weight to petal placement—is a reflection of thoughtful engagement with her materials.

Pink Flamingo in Bloom | Mixed Media
$1,000
18 X 24
“Pink Flamingo in Bloom” is a mixed media celebration of elegance, whimsy, and renewal. A graceful flamingo stands amid a flourishing arch of blossoms, rendered through layered paint and real preserved botanicals. Soft blush tones create a warm, dreamlike atmosphere, while floral textures add depth and dimension. The piece evokes beauty, balance, and the quiet joy of nature in full bloom.
In her debut year working with mixed media, Jane’s piece The Tamaracks Quail was juried into the 2024 Chewelah Winterfest for the Arts—a meaningful milestone that affirmed her place within the art community. This recognition marked a pivotal moment in her journey and gave her the confidence to share her work more broadly. Since then, she has participated in regional exhibitions and expanded her online presence, hoping to reach audiences who, like her, feel a deep connection to the natural world.
"The Silent Seer" captures a moment of stillness and spiritual depth, inspired by a holy man we met along the Ganges in Varanasi, India. This mixed media piece blends texture, ink, and botanicals to evoke reverence and reflection. Asemic script whispers ancient stories, while the sage’s serene expression invites viewers to pause, breathe, and connect with wisdom that transcends time.

Connection | Mixed Media

"Connection" captures a moment of cultural storytelling via textured layers and rich colors. We met this man in Delhi, India adorned in traditional Hindu attire. Here he walks confidently against a golden backdrop, symbolizing strength and resilience contrasted with delicate flowers’ beauty. Intricate asemic script invites viewers to ponder the narrative behind the figure, creating a sense of mystery. Each brushstroke reflects a journey of exploration, connecting culture and the natural world.
Jane’s art reflects her belief that beauty is not always found in grandeur. Instead, it often resides in delicate, transient moments—a curled stem, a subtle color shift, the trace of a leaf. Her pieces offer more than decoration; they serve as quiet invitations to pay attention, reflect, and find strength in fragility. Each work represents a moment of stillness and a reverence for the fleeting yet meaningful details of life.
"Autumn’s Tapestry" features a central tree set against a vibrant blue sky, its branches filled with leaves in varied hues that suggest multiple seasons in harmony.

Today, Jane continues to live and work in the Pacific Northwest, where the forests, meadows, and wildflowers outside her door remain her greatest sources of inspiration. Her practice is an ongoing exploration of materials, memory, and the passage of time. Through her work, she hopes to offer others a pause in the rush of daily life—and a renewed appreciation for the quiet, fragile beauty of the world we all share.
