Hilde Soroy

NORWAY

Yellow and Black Photography Quote (1).p

“Alcohol ink is my passion.”

Hilde Soroy (Happy by Hilde) specializes in alcohol ink. The unique results and stunning details achieved fascinate her. She finds it meditative to watch the ink flow creating magical artworks. With the use of smooth non-absorbent surfaces, and the love of working with powerful vivid colors as well as softer palettes, Hilde´s body of work captures the eye at every turn.

My inspiration for this piece is the fantastic beautiful trees in the park jsut outside our apartment in Oslo city center. In Spring, they blossom with the most wonderful soft pink flowers you can imagine. I have fallen in love with these colors, so soft and elegant.

Hilde is from Norway and has lived in Oslo for the past 30 years. With a deep passion for travel and new experiences honed after visiting over 50 countries, these firsthand adventures provide amazing creative inspiration and inner happiness that guides her as an artist. Hilde`s artistic journey started later in life, and it was only a few years ago that she stumbled upon the mesmerizing beauty of alcoholic ink paintings and found her true artistic calling.

Thoughtfullness Part 1 is the first artwork in a serie of 4. They look good together, but can also stand alone. For me this is in reflection of the strengt of having people in your life you care about and makes you happy. But at the same time being able to be strong alone.

Drawn to their inherent fluidity and ability to create beautiful compositions, Hilde was captivated by the spontaneous interplay of colors and the mesmerizing textures that alcohol ink created on various surfaces. Driven by a relentless curiosity and a thirst for knowledge, she delved into extensive research, studying the techniques and methods of renowned alcohol ink artists such as Anuja Aggarwal and Charlotte Vale. She embarked on a journey of experimentation and self-discovery, honing her skills through countless hours of practice and exploration.

“I specialized in abstract serene artwork with gilded details.”

Hilde`s artistic style can be described as a delicate balance between controlled chaos and graceful harmony. Her intuitive approach to alcohol ink painting involves layering and manipulating the inks, allowing them to organically interact and blend. The result is a captivating fusion of vibrant hues and fluid shapes that seem to come alive on the paper.

Thoughtfullness Part 2 is the second artwork in a serie of 4. They look good together, but can also stand alone. For me this is in reflection of the strengt of having people in your life you care about and makes you happy. But at the same time being able to be strong alone.

Thoughtfullness Part 13is the third artwork in a serie of 4. They look good together, but can also stand alone. For me this is in reflection of the strengt of having people in your life you care about and makes you happy. But at the same time being able to be strong alone.

Within her abstract compositions, Hilde strives to create a sense of harmony amidst the apparent chaos. Each droplet of ink becomes an opportunity to convey her innermost emotions, exploring themes of identity, connection, and the profound beauty found within the realms of the unknown.

“Colors inspire me.”

“I just love that each piece is completely unique and different, and can never be duplicated. How the alcohol inks flow, how the colors interact, and how I can influence the ink’s movement I find very mesmerizing and exciting.”

Hilde draws inspiration from a multitude of sources, both within and outside the art world. She is particularly influenced by the works of some contemporary artists such as Victoria Bondar and Kimberly Deen. Their innovative approaches to alcohol ink painting and fearless exploration of the medium inspire Hilde to constantly experiment, refine her technique, and discover new possibilities.

Thoughtfullness Part 4 is the last artwork in a serie of 4. They look good together, but can also stand alone. For me this is in reflection of the strengt of having people in your life you care about and makes you happy. But at the same time being able to be strong alone.

Nature is another powerful muse for Hilde. She finds solace and inspiration in the delicate dance of colors found in the changing seasons, the intricacy of floral formations, and the ever-shifting play of light and shadows. These elements find their way into her artworks, infusing them with a sense of organic beauty and serenity.

The gasmask I painted during Covid. At the time, we were all wearing masks to protect others and ourselves – but many still got sick.

Although gas masks are primarily used during wars or times of unrest, my abstract gas mask symbolizes for me the physical and mental destruction Covid caused and still does to this day.

Hilde`s unique talent has been recognized within the art community. Her abstract alcohol ink paintings have been featured in several group exhibitions, including the Exhibition New Art, New Wave at Boomer Gallery in London, and the Exhibition “Be Free”, organized by Female Artists of Oslo at Vulkan Oslo. In 2023 she was one of the Exhibition Winners for excellent art achievement in the first YELLOW ART EXHIBITION at Artist Space Gallery. And won a TALENT PRIZE AWARD in the "5th COLOR" art competition at Teravarna Art Gallery. In 2023 she has also been published in Global Art Times, Suboart Magazine, and Artist Close Up.

Some lovely colors and gilded details - sometimes that is all it takes to feel good.

“I frequently find inspiration in the organic, abstract elements of the natural world, but sometimes something as simple as raindrops on a window or a piece of fabric can be the starting point of my next artwork.”
