Fanny Finchelman

ARGENTINA

Yellow and Black Photography Quote (1).p

“Working with glass taught me a powerful lesson for life: even shattered fragments can be gathered and transformed into something new and beautiful.”

After a fulfilling career as an architect and urban planner, Fanny discovered a deep passion for glass fusing. Her journey in art began in Argentina, in 2001, when she had the fortune of meeting and learning from some of the best glass artists in Buenos Aires.

IMPERFECT LOVE | Glass

$1,950

3.9 X 16

For me, this piece has come to represent the perfect celebration of imperfection. It was created, then smashed, reworked and kiln-fired countless times. Until one day, there it was: perfection, not in flawless symmetry, but in the beauty born from embracing imperfection. A breathtaking piece shaped by patience, persistence, and a love for the journey of transformation.

For almost a decade, until 2010, she immersed herself in constant learning, perfecting basic and advanced glass fusing techniques. According to Fanny, working with glass taught her how to transform into something beautiful and new from shattered fragments, which taught her an impactful lesson.

WINGS | Glass

$1,700

3.8 X 13

This piece reminds me of the wings of a beautiful bird, just beginning its flight toward the infinite. It was crafted using a special colored glass, enriched with glass powders in a spectrum of hues. Through multiple additions and kiln firings, this careful process brought forth its elegant shape and a striking sense of lightness.

For almost a decade, until 2010, Fanny immersed herself in constant learning, perfecting basic and advanced glass fusing techniques. Upon emigrating to Israel, Fanny continued to develop her art as a self-taught artist.

“What started as a hobby became a true way of life.”

Through online classes and experimentation-based approaches, Fanny refined her technique and added a unique style to her creations. Over time, she began to exhibit her works, sharing her artistic vision and teaching others.

MIRRORRED COMPOSITION | Glass

$2,750

31 X 21

Composition with the addition of mirrors, metals on jute fiber
This composition began as a simple glass frame I created for a bathroom mirror. When the mirror broke, I realized the frame deserved a better chance. By combining the remnants of the mirror, the frame and other materials, I transformed it into this unique piece, which has since earned a place of honor in my studio.

Ceramics and fused glass with glass inlays on an iron support
This sculpture represents a blend of my earlier journey as a ceramist and my current passion for glass. The ceramic lower part had been waiting for its moment to become part of a larger creation.
After experimenting with countless kiln-fired glass upper sections, this design stood out as the clear winner. Shortly after, I came across this iron base that seamlessly tied the elements together, transforming the piece into a cohesive and

ENIGMA | Glass

$2,600

16 X 14

Fanny considers every breakup an opportunity to revamp herself and create something new. Fanny advocates the desire for glass and glass fusing technique. Glass is an extraordinary material made from something as simple as sand (silica), and its versatility offers endless possibilities for artistic expression. It can be transparent or vibrant, playful with light and reflections, and even surprisingly flexible. Fanny believes in rebuilding from broken pieces and rising stronger like a Phoenix.

“I love to plan and experiment with different materials and techniques to create unique pieces, often making my own glazes to achieve special and unique effects on my pieces.”

“Working with glass is also a profound lesson about life. At first, every time a piece broke—and it happens more than you would like—I was overcome with frustration and sadness at the loss. “Over time, however, I learned that every breakup is an opportunity to renew oneself, a reminder to let go and to be able to transform what seemed lost into something new and better.”

Glass fusing is one of several artistic techniques that manipulate glass in its cold state, and then fuse it at high temperatures in a specialized oven called a kiln. This technique allows one to create decorative, functional, or sculptural pieces by combining different layers, textures, and colors of glass, which are melted and molded to give rise to unique designs. After experimenting with countless kiln-fired glass, she came across this iron base that seamlessly tied the elements together, transforming the piece into a cohesive and balanced creation.

FLOWERING DESERT | Glass

$1,400

8.6 X 6.7

This miniature sculpture is crafted through a meticulous, multi-step process developed by me. It begins with the creation of a glass sheet using only powdered glass, which is then kiln-fired to solidify. Additional powders are then applied to create delicate color gradients and intricate shapes, with each layer fused through repeated firings. In the final stage, the glass is shaped during a last firing and then assembled onto its support.

Fanny delights in designing and exploring by blending various techniques and materials to create captivating effects on her pieces. Hence, each project is a fascinating journey full of discoveries and creativity. Whether Fanny is creating art for sale, working on custom commissions, or leading workshops in her studio and online, her mission and passion is to share the magic of glass with others and spread the joy of art.

ADAM AND SHELLY | Glass

$1,750

22 X 27

This bass-relief was crafted using a unique technique involving the creation of high-temperature-resistant molds that define the desired shapes. The molds act as negatives, allowing the softened glass to take form during the kiln firing. The pieces are fired, and once cooled, they are meticulously polished and refined to achieve their final, flawless appearance.

Over the years, Fanny has created and perfected new techniques, applying them individually or combining them, to maximize the inherent qualities of glass: its transparency and opacity, fragility and strength, colors and reflections. This approach has allowed her to give life to unique pieces that stand out for their originality and beauty, which have become her hallmark as an artist.

This artwork was thoughtfully crafted to reflect the profound complexity of human understanding. Layers of glass were precisely arranged, each contributing to the harmonious shape that emerged. Before kiln firing, high-temperature enamel was applied, to enhance the piece's vibrant textures and details. A contrasting wood base complements the glass with its rich color, opacity, and natural texture, creating an interplay that evokes the multifaceted nature of human thought and perception.

UNDERSTANDING | Glass

$2,200

27 X 21

“Like the Phoenix rising from ashes, we too can take the opportunity to rebuild ourselves from brokenness, creating something stronger, more unique, and full of meaning.”

WALL ART 1 | Glass

$1,800

14 X 13

This piece is part of a wall installation created for the opening of a shop in Tel Aviv. The technique employed is an innovative fusion of glass sheets, glass powders, and enamels, resulting in a unique creation. The artwork is light and ethereal, yet imbued with a sense of vitality and movement, thus creating a dynamic, ever-changing play of light and shades, which bring energy and life to the space.

Putting the fragments together and giving them a new shape led Fanny to discover that by decomposing to recompose, doors open to wonderful creations. When she had a hammer in hand, she began to give life to pieces and entitled them as "hammer and kiln." That’s when she learned that in life like with glass, we can always rebuild ourselves and emerge improved, even from the most painful fragments.

A truly radiant piece of art that harmoniously combines the delicate beauty of fused glass with the strength of an iron base. This balance of boldness and delicacy celebrates the vitality and beauty of nature, making it a lively centerpiece in any space it adorns.

SUNSHINE CIRCLE | Glass

$1,600

VEINS | Glass

$1,700

2.8 X 9.5

This holey vessel began as pure powders, which, melting in the kiln, bled like open veins into one another—fusing the pieces into a unified whole while simultaneously carving out their boundaries as distinct entities.

“Come and explore this incredible medium with me and share the beauty that emerges from a simple “piece of sand”."
