Claudia Klassen

GERMANY

Yellow and Black Photography Quote (1).p

“Art always gives insights into one’s own soul and the soul of other artists.”

Claudia Klassen lives and works in the German town of Celle which is known for its half-timbered houses. Already her childhood was filled with a lot of painting and doing arts and crafts. The moments when everyone created something together and immerged in a magical world were always the beautiful ones.

Abstract 1 | Acrylic

28 X 28

A stream of ultramarine blue color pigments creates organic shapes.

From an early age, she has been thrilled about colors and shapes and the way they interact. After finishing high school with the highest German diploma, she completed a vocational training program and went on to work in the university medical center in Hanover.

Abstract 2 | Acrylic

20 X 39

A fresh, mellow turquoise cobalt blue meets warm, bursting earth tones.

A distance education program in web design allowed her to immerse herself in the enormous possibilities the internet has to offer; its open and free communication still excites her to this day. Seminars and workshops offered deeper insights into different painting techniques.

“Painting always remained my big passion.”

What drives her when she paints is the profound feeling of inner contentment and happiness that fill her when she can create something new and see it flourish. It’s a wonderful moment when the passion for art transfers from galleries to other people.

Lily | Oil

39 X 31

Blue lily in the garden awakened in the light. The silken play of colors on the petals is always a grand spectacle that is mesmerizing every year.
A whirlwind of colors and shapes arises from a simple corm. The spectacle can only be admired for a few days before the beauty is dormant for another year.

The velvety rose petals are slightly wound and twisted and create a magnificent rose flower. The interplay of light and shadow is particularly magical here.

Rose | Oil

39 X 39

For her abstract paintings, she works with different natural pigments to mix colors, aiming at creating a new shade. It makes her discover a broad palette of colors with unique characteristics outside of the color standard. In several layers, she lets an interplay of colors come into existence that is set to captivate and inspire the beholder.

“Art builds bridges and opens new horizons. By the calm that it gives, art creates a new reality – its own little world.”

“Gerhard Richter’s words ‘Art is the highest form of hope’ have stayed with me for a long time now and inspire me to look for and create art in places that have little to do with it in the first place.”

Contrasting paintings are often created using oil paint and watercolors that are also enriched with pigments. When working with watercolors, she is always intrigued by the way the water and pigments interact on wet paper. A motif can often be found in nature.

Cherry blossom | Oil

28 X 39

After the winter, the garden awakes with the first cherry blossom. The various shades of white beaming in the light are always fascinating.

When wandering the landscape, there’s little treasures ready to be portrayed and created. The Heath with its beautiful forests, its meandering rivers, is really inspiring. Her garden with its diverse flora is her magical world. It’s very calm, only a few insects and birds break the silence and find their way onto her paintings.

Saxophonist | Mixed Media

31 X 24

The golden saxophone fills the room with sound. It travels through the air like swathes of mist and paints a picture of dancing figures in the background.

Time and again, she is fascinated by human beings and heads. Movements of people dancing or practicing sports are especially intriguing. Water interacting with light, and shadow always provides a motif. A lot of paintings can also be created in water and with water.

The sound of the drums travels through the room. It creates a dynamic that is reflected by blurry shapes in the background.

Moving drums | Mixed Media

31 X 24

“Transparent and opaque colors interact; depth is created through contrasts.”

Colorful worlds | Oil

39 X 39

A young girl blows bubbles that float in the air. Their surface shows a reflection of a world in rainbow colors. It symbolizes a distant dream world that is more tolerant and diverse.

In terms of content, she often focuses on small things and significantly enlarges them to underline their importance. When looking at the big picture, the small things often get lost, but without the small things, the big picture would not exist. She also draws inspiration from press texts or photos. In contemporary paintings, pictures were printed on canvas and then repainted with oil paint. In doing so, shades that already exist are discovered and used to create something new, which is what she finds particularly fascinating.

A boy is painting a rainbow, innocently, completely focused on the play of colors. Lurking hidden in the background are atom bombs of the war. How delusive is the silence?

With the rainbow | Oil

39 X 39

The artists she looks up to the most are Gerhard Richter, Andy Warhol and Banksy. Gerhard Richter creates color resonances in his realist paintings that are incredibly intense. Warhol fascinates with color spaces that are created through unique contrasts. Banksy impresses with the reduction of shapes and the themes of his works are highly explosive.

Jump | Oil

39 X 39

A dancer dressed in the colors of Ukraine jumps into independency. A wish becomes reality.

“Art is a gate that people go through to get a better understanding of each other.”
